Browse Forums Kitchen Corner Re: Need some inspiration for our kitchen 2Apr 08, 2010 10:46 pm Hi Acrebuild - we are having a very similar kitchen by the sounds of things - ours is also the centre of the house with an open plan with the dining, family and kids rumpus all coming off the kitchen: - osprey CS benches - Dark cupboards (probably Formica 'graphite') - I am still tossing up whether to go with a two-tone and have lighter cupboards on the top - am also considering glass cupboards doors on top with stainless steel boarders. - light floors (natural bamboo) - and my favourite - burgundy glass splashback (Focus Glass FC320C) i haven't actually seen this in real life - it's all in my head!! but I have seen some pictures that have given some inspiration. The first picture is my favourite and the most like what I have in mind. If only we knew what the next colour trend will be. Building in the Hunter Valley - 5 glorious acres. Are you locked into glass splashback? Every office kitchen, cafe and display home in Austrlia has glass splashbacks. If they are not "out" they are on the way out and you are concerned with "dating". There are some fantastic alternatives out there nowadays and this is where you can get you "wow" factor. The other thing I'd suggest is consider built in cooktop and oven. The standalone's tend to date a kitchen quickly. Re: Need some inspiration for our kitchen 5Apr 09, 2010 3:22 pm Really, at the moment what is standard is a underbench 600mm oven and i have upgraded to the 900mm. I think it looks awesome, to me every plan jane kitchen has a 600mm (JMI - no offence) wall oven and i wanted something differenent. The glass splash back is something we want - all our past kitchens within a few yrs the grout is falling out, so in the upgrade bonus package they have the glass splash back. Thanks for your input. Would make a lovely splash with no grout. We're going with stopsol grey splashback - it is a black mirror finish. It is seriously WOW without having a colour that would date it - it really looks silvery-blacky-high-shine-mirror. Personally, I think that if you want WOW then the dark kitchens (like the polytec picture at the top) have it. Incredibly bold, stunning. If you want something that won't date, white keeps coming back. High gloss white is really classy and plain, flat surfaces. White also goes with anything and you can dress it up or down with whatever colours you want to add - so if you do decide to change the splash in a few years you don't need to worry about colour matching. Anything goes. Mostly If we could both afford it and convince our builder to do it, I would have loved high gloss white cabinetry with polished concrete benchtops and steel or stopsol grey splash =) Hi VK, Think it's worth investing time in an Owner Builder course to equip you with basic knowledge on Australian Building Industry and its regulations.
