Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Vertical Gardens 27Apr 06, 2010 11:17 pm Vic here. What is the rough set up costs per square metre or however they work it out? Re: Vertical Gardens 28Apr 07, 2010 9:08 am The cheapest DIY vertical garden module available in Australia is the Gro-Wall for about $250 (0.8m2). I can source Woolly pockets and the ELT from the US but they are far too expensive ( $300 - $400/m2). For more advanced systems and costs the Elmich module can be sourced. The cheapest solution I can suggest is a felt based version with pockets (which is what the Melbourne Central Vertical garden is based on). Check out http://plantsonwalls.com/. But it is important to have a continuous supply of water to keep the felt moist. I have developed a similar product for the Australian market for about $250/m2. It has one water proof layer, two felt layers and a shade cloth layer. The price does not including piping or recirculation system. Hope this helps Lushe. Re: Vertical Gardens 29Apr 07, 2010 9:37 am Thanks Lushe. I'm a bit worried about the watering system as have no idea how that all works. We are a few mths from doing the backyard but this is something I am quite interested in. I just don't know anyone who has one. Re: Vertical Gardens 30Apr 07, 2010 9:40 am the felt system looks easy but I don't think this is the look I want but I think it'll be easier to manage than the boxed system. Re: Vertical Gardens 31Apr 08, 2010 6:59 am At present there is no system available to capture all the water. Everything has to be custom built. The cheapest solution we have found is to use open plastic drainage and use a small pond pump to recirculate the water. There are a few examples of what others have done on my blog www.lushe.com.au Re: Vertical Gardens 32Apr 10, 2010 7:55 pm Thanks Lushe. Once we move in and get organised I hope to get one set up. So the plaster drainage is what will catch the water and the pump to suck the water up from to water the plants and so on? Re: Vertical Gardens 33Apr 10, 2010 7:56 pm I got some photos to add to this thread soon. Uploading takes fooooorr ever Re: Vertical Gardens 39Apr 10, 2010 10:04 pm I'll keep you informed. Going to do the front garden first then tackle the back. I'm in Vic so next time I'm in Melb might pay a visit to Lushe. I like this..... http://www.lushe.com.au/gro-wall-vertic ... /gro-wall/ Re: Vertical Gardens 40Apr 14, 2010 6:32 am The problem with the Gro-Wall is the bags are white and makes the modules stand our more than they should. Also water tends to run off the bags and not seep into it. We have found that the a vertical garden needs a constant medium like soil, felt, rockwool. The Gro-wall allows the soil to dry out too quickly. There is also no system to capture and recycle the water.
