The darker the colour the faster the fading. Also the film of oil based paint will fail a lot sooner than the acrylics.... in allowing dirt and grime to settle and then flaking. Cheers ...Scott Re: Tip for the day – External colours 9Apr 03, 2010 2:39 pm I never suggest oil base for exteriors. I have posted a pic of our Facade as it is quite hard to explain!!! For our externals we have chosen Surfmist for: Gutters, Fascia, Garage Door, Timber claddings and our front doors and Surfmist will be alternating with Monument (nearly black) on the Sycon Battens (above the Portico). Now - as we have chosen Surfmist for so many different textures and materials will the colour fade at a different rate on all of these different types of materials and then in a few years will our facade look like it has 8 different shades of white on it???!!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We are going for a black/white and grey theme (in and out) so our main bricks are a light grey (Boral Mist) and the bricks under the window (under the white timber cladding) we have gone for a metallic black finish (Austral Graphite)... Roof tiles are Monier Traditional Barramundi (Charcoal)... so with the rest of the colour scheme in mind - will it look like too many different shades of white!!!!??? Surfmist C/B will take quite a while to fade. Monument – will fade faster. Darker colours fade faster. Sleven…I have to say, this has been one of the best question I have been asked. But unfortunately, I can’t answer it. How fast all your selections may fade, will depend on product. Something I have never looked into. Good question though!
