I will build my deck exactly the same way Matt, it was good to see the pictures of it during construction. A question though - can you see the concrete through the gaps? Duke, I question the requirement for a 300mm clearance above ground level - surely this is only for the post/bearer/joist method of construction built above dirt? In Matts case the concrete, which is already above ground level, acts as the bearers and joists. Maybe it's not really a deck - maybe it's a floating floor with an air gap! Eager, No! In short the depth of the timber combined with the gap at the top do not allow enough light to penetrate to see the concrete underneath. I like my floating floor too! I had been advised, believe it or not, to paint my concrete black beforehand. Now I won't bother! Re: My alfresco decking... 35Feb 26, 2008 7:13 pm Quote: OK, thanks for that. Yep and in 2 years time it wil be covered in dust and muck and won't be black anymore anyway Re: My alfresco decking... 36Feb 26, 2008 8:50 pm Eager I had been advised, believe it or not, to paint my concrete black beforehand. If it is close to a slab, I would seal the slab with a water-proofing agent to stop damp rising up into the timber Re: My alfresco decking... 37May 26, 2008 10:07 pm Re: My alfresco decking... 38May 26, 2008 10:32 pm Looks really good Matt, well done.

Looks really good. Now when you get a chance after you have stained it all, we want to see a full shot of the deck and space.
