There is not much choice nowadays if you don't want multifunction (why?). Also gas choices are pretty limited. Regardless there is quite a distinct hierarchy of ovens. Start with Gaggenau, then Miele, then the 2nd tier German brands (Bosch, Siemens, Neff) then probably the Italians (Ilve, Omega, Smeg etc) and the Australian brands. It is really going to depend on your budget because the price differences are huge. And then you have to consider that any brand can potentially produce an appliance that is troublesome. But it seems from my research that you are likely to get luckier with Bosch or Siemens than any of the others (I am assuming Gaggenau is too expensive). I wouldn't buy Smeg, you just hear too much bad stuff about it. Re: Gas stoves - which brands are trouble free? 4Mar 26, 2010 4:13 pm Bosch used to be a good brand. But I heard that the washing machines aren't good anymore and won't have a life expectancy of more than 5-7 years. The DIY tools had been good but we bought two of them, and they didn't work very long. Hopefully their stoves are better, I am not sure where the stuff is produced. Everything made in China just does not meet quality standards and Taiwan isn't much better either. Thank you fro your response, Simeon.
