I have had, my Agave in a pot stolen from my front porch, a Buddha statue in my front yard stolen, my gardening pitch fork stolen (mid afternoon), my car has been keyed and spray painted, my husbands car has been written on with fluro paint texta and broken into with all of the loose change in his ash tray stolen, our front fence (that we built to keep the ferals out) was tagged and someone ripped the decking slats off a section of fence.... and the police have done nothing!!! AND WE LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD that is in full view of umpteen cars driving past at any hour of the day! Where I work (on the same road that I live on) we got the landscaping done... for the past 18 months our giant birds of paradise have been stolen nearly every fortnight!!! I thought of writing into the paper... but I really don't think these types of people would actually READ the paper... they're too busy out there ruining what everyone else is working so hard for! (Sorry if that sounded like a rant... but I feel your pain... 5 years of vandalism and theft is very heart breaking... hence our decision to move!) You can gets some stunning looking hedging plants but you have watch out for the spikes. I planted some as a hedge along a fence of our house we built in 1997 but I can't remember what they were called. They were variegated, had little purple flowers, grew to about 2m and looked fantastic. Easy to edge but bit you if you put your hand in them. Just can't seem to remember what they were called. If you wanted that type of plant that would be a good question to ask Fu PCI Done Re: Thieves stealing my bushes advice needed. 16Mar 21, 2010 9:39 pm buildingwithhamra Thanks everyone, but for 9 plants, I really cant afford a $500 cctv camera, I would prefer to build a fence. buildingwithhamra, did you click on the link? It's only $39.95. If all your neighbours are aware, somebody just might happen to be up in the middle of the night when thieves are sneaking around, and may see something. I have three neighbours who work nights and come home at odd hours, and my son regularly gets home between midnight and 5:00am. Plus my husband is an insomniac and can be wandering around the house at any time. Chances are, there's always somebody up in our street. So you never know who's looking out their window. Make sure they all know what's been happening - it can't hurt. It's only $39.95 Thanks kek I did, but I dont think a fake camera would work, cause people know real ones cost a lot and who is seriously going to pay $$$ for a few plants. And its dark, I dont think the image would be good enough to catch them, I think they park down the street a little ...(I tracked dirt to middle of the road which suddenly stopped) so I dont even think a camera would pick up a number plate. Thanks Jose27 about your idea, but I still have 10 of these plants left, so unless they all get stolen I need to keep the same plant. I have reported to the police and I asked whether it was a waste of time, she said it helps with their crime statitics, I said great, that helps you, but how does it help me, she said if someone rings and says 5 plants have been thrown over their fence I may get them back, unlikely but you never know. Sleven, I would of resorted to razor blades or fish hooks for the bird of paradise, I would be nice and put up a little sign, hopefully that would waiver my legal responsibility if someone got harmed. Thanks everyone I am going to go for a sensor light, and then a fence maybe just temporary, my landscaper says the roots should be good in about 3 months. I have been told people steal these and sell them at markets, I went to the local sunday garden market and didnt find them, but did find rosemary for $3 which my landscaper says costs about $10.
