Not just the cheap ones. I dont believe there are any WC suites made in australia today. Kohler is an American company. Its products are generally quite expensive and tradelink has a monopoly. The ceramic parts (cistern and pan) are made in china (as are most of the WC suites on the market in australia.) Toilet suites are generally just a ceramic tank with plastic parts in them. The internal parts (outlet and inlet valves) are often the same in different brands. Kohler generally uses Geberit valves...as do many of the other manufacturers. As a plumber, I personally think Kohler are overpriced and its possible to get as good and a better product for a cheaper price. The best WC suites Ive worked on are Ifö a swedish brand. Caroma are an australian company who lead the world in water saving technology. Although they are made in Asia their products are good Re: Quality of Kohler fixtures? 4Mar 16, 2010 7:48 pm vvs mand Quote: A think its a sales tatic. Actually the Kohler toilets are quite well priced compared to a lot of other brands incl Caroma - I am quite keen on one of them. Just want to make sure quality is OK. Thanks for your comments. Re: Quality of Kohler fixtures? 5Mar 16, 2010 8:40 pm What I liked about the caroma cisterns is the outlet valve. Its similar to the geberit valve usually used in the kohler, but more robust. But the geberit is the most used valve across the entire rang of cisterns available in aus. you just have to be careful when removing the lid. There is a particular method of removing the lid and do do so incorrectly can break them. But like I said earlier, theres not really that much difference in that just about all are made in china and have similar parts inside them. Some have better a quality ceramic.. , which is generally easy to see. But dont under any circumstances buy an Imperial WC suite. Complete rubbish, even though they have tried to upgrade the outlet valves numerous times. |
