Re: Between-the-Floors Insulation 33Mar 10, 2010 7:50 pm rubber_noggin However, acoustic batts are better at attenuating sound than thermal batts. Yeah, the price difference is probably not worth my time here but still ... What annoys me is that I can't find proper technical manuals which go into such details, so I (ok, we) will be making the decision based on the "feel" ebyelyakov Have no idea - the next visit is on Sat.. Re: Between-the-Floors Insulation 34Mar 10, 2010 8:51 pm Hey Lex, we originally asked about whether this was a sensible option but had the advice (much like the others who've commented here) that the 'hole' that was the stairwell would negate any positives to having the insulation between the floors. Our builder apparently uses the "silent floor system" (http://www.infolink.com.au/n/Silent-floors-n755537) but this is more to do with minimising any "squeaky floor" type noises (I think) rather than any noises from the occupants of the house. At the end of the day neither of us is sensitive enough to noise (which will be mostly emitted by kids!) to have worried about it enough to push it further. ~ good luck with what you decide, cheers, J _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Between-the-Floors Insulation 36Mar 28, 2010 8:02 am With external wall insulation, builders usually exclude garage walls. But what if one of the garage walls is also an "internal" wall - does it get the insulation or not? For example, if there is a wall between your Formal Living and the Garage, does that wall get insulated? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Between-the-Floors Insulation 37Mar 28, 2010 8:57 am Well, I can't speak for everyone but we certainly did (as standard); I think it would seriously compromise the insulation's effectiveness if they didn't. As it is, if someone leaves just our internal garage door open for too long (in the middle of a Canberra winter) you can feel a wall of 'cold' roll into the house; I would hate to think how much cold would creep in if the whole wall was uninsulated! 'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' - Winston Churchill Re: Between-the-Floors Insulation 38Mar 28, 2010 10:50 am That's exactly right - I would expect any such "internal" wall to be treated as external, ie. to get it insulated. Hopefully the builder thinks the same way. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
