It was a good experience and we learned the ropes a bit. There were disappointments but overall we were happy with the finished product. There are things that we say we'd never do again (e.g. settle for builders standard kitchens). We're building again. The kids are grown and gone and it's time to downsize. We're only at the early stages (engineer's report). The big difference now seems to be how long it takes to build. No doubt we'll make mistakes and there will be disappointments again but in the end it's what you bring to your home that makes the difference. Family, friends, pets, neighbours are all a part of that. I've learned to make a home of everywhere I've lived whether it be a 2 bedroom unit or a 4x2 house. It's good to rise to the challenge of building new memories in a new place as you take your old memories with you. You can try and ask for things to be fixed - that's in the good hands of your SS. Some SSs hope that you'll accept any excuse and will refuse to fix even the obvious things, some will fix even small things. Overall, it's the luck of the draw. As they say - it's the balance of probability (of what measures will the client take) that some builders are relying on ... pretty scary isn't it I think it is. We are seeing some things that I never heard of and never saw or heard that others have - so you can't prepare for everything, since you don't even know if a certain piece of work could go wrong, not to mention how and why, and what to do to prevent it from happening. So, the luck of the draw is my conclusion again. If the house structure is built solidly and on solid foundations, smaller things will be forgotten and forgiven, but the key word is "if". Sometimes the answer awaits a few years down the track. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Has anyone hated their house after building?? 37Mar 10, 2010 5:59 pm ![]() ![]() I hate my builder, I hate my house and I get the keys Friday! I will sell it straight away and build with someone who is competent. The whole process was a nightmare and it made me physically sick. I could list all the bad things that happened but would be typing forever. Actually I did list it all once lol...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hello everyone, I have a question regarding moving a chandelier after it has been mounted.
