Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Hinging a 1200 door 7Mar 02, 2010 1:50 pm --- I don't have a signature - just this sentence saying that I don't have one - that'll do! Re: Hinging a 1200 door 10Mar 02, 2010 2:51 pm I spoke with the door company ho siad it was possible but not recommended. The builder will not do it. Says the door or frame will warp as it is too heavy for normal hinges. That leaves us with 2 options: 1. The pivot hinge (too scared to do that now - imagine if a child did get hurt...) 2. Change to a 920 door with two sidelights, but in a 1200 gap, would two sidelights look stupid as they will be very narrow? I don't like the idea of 1 sidelight. I think it would look odd. Advice and input appreciated, SC Re: Hinging a 1200 door 12Mar 02, 2010 2:56 pm themax Why do you think 1 sidelight would look odd? I think it might look a little asymmetrical. Going to drive around a new estate now and see what I can see... Re: Hinging a 1200 door 13Mar 02, 2010 2:57 pm Bam The heavier the door, the more support it needs. Just tell your builder you're happy to have 4 hinges to overcome the weight problem They have given a flat out, "NO!".... I went for a bit of a drive and decided that a 920 with one sidelight looks nice. So many houses have it that way... Better than two narrow ones and gives room as you walk through the door... 920 was enough to get the furniture in. We live in a pretty safe area and it’s great to see people walking to the front door. We’re not too fussed about people… 4 2618 Black on light wood does look good. Not sure if it will be as long lasting as a steel finish? 6 6601 I’m in a similar position except I’m after sliding 3 stacking doors.
