Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 25, 2010 10:45 am Does anyone know for sure what the current regulations are for safe distance of a powerpoint from a bathroom basin? I'm pretty certain it has to be at least 15cm to the side of the basin rim, but not sure if it's 20,30 or 40cm upwards from the rim of the basin. Re: bathroom electrical question - GPO's 4Feb 25, 2010 12:10 pm yeah I felt the same way when I couldn't find my GPO in my main bathroom - turns out it is INSIDE the vanity cabinet as on the wall either side of the mirror was too close to a water source Who the heck wants to use a GPO in the bloody cabinet when you need to get down on all fours to use it AND you can't utilise all the cupboard. GRRR If I had known that at the time of my electrical appointment I would have changed it to a different wall!! 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' I looked it up for my design and it is something like 150 mm, but I would need to look it up to be sure. You can put GPOs just outside of 150 mm going sideways or 400 mm going above a basin. This applies for any basin up to 45 litres, which covers all bathroom basins. (In the laundry, if your basin has a capacity above 45 litres then you need to go 500 mm to the sides or 1000 mm above the basin) You can put a shaver outlet anywhere you like (excpet in the basin ). Presumably shaver outlets have some auto switch off feature. So 150 mm to the side works, regardless of height. Cheers Michael This must have been for a laundry tub (and above 45 litres at that), rather than a bathroom basin. You'd think that would have been mentioned at your electrical appointment, so you'd have a chance to find an alternative, wouldn't you? Everything gets taken out, used and put away.... if I had an electric toothbrush, I might have added an extra GPO to the cupboard though - good thinking. GRRR If I had known that at the time of my electrical appointment I would have changed it to a different wall!! Wish I knew that too. Guess ours will be in the vanity too. Oh well. Luckily it's the ensuite that will be used the most. Still, it'll feel like a bad motel room...lol. Things are always in funny locations in those things. Life is; then you tell yourself a story. To be honest I had forgotten about it until the other day when the plasterer needed a power point in there and he couldn't find it Like Oze said, that bathroom currently doesn't get used a lot but still, putting it on another wall would have been a nice option, especially cos when they did the electrical fit out of the house they put the wiring and the cut out for it where I wanted it but then had to move it so I didn't know until PCI 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' If they are on the side, just inside the door that would be alright, but not on the very back of it where it's hard to reach -shakes head- 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.'
