Can anyone suggest a product we can use ourselves to fix rising damp - we have this problem in the brickwork in an old fire place.

If the wall was first damp proofed by the tradesman before he plastered them, then it should be OK. Otherwise the bricks themselves need treating as previously discussed in these threads.
