Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 24, 2010 2:02 pm We are in the process of organising our colour's for our new house and are up to floor tiles. I love the look of the porcelain rectified edge tiles - we found one we love but as the tile itself was about $20 per sqm more than our builder's allowance, and then another $50 per sqm to lay them over the allowance and we have over 90 sqm to tile, the extra cost just wan't feasible, so we are back to ceramic's. We have found a polished ceramic tile that we like, but I am a bit worried about how slippery they are - we have three young boy's and two dog's and I am worried about everyone sliding and headbutting walls. We have a sample which doesn't seem to be too slippery - actually feels like it has a bit of grip when barefoot, but I am worried that once 3/4 of the house as this tile that it will be a trip to hospital waiting to happen. Also, what are they like to clean? Do they show marks much more easily than matt tiles, or is it much the same? Do they chip more, or show marks / scratches more than matt finish? Thanks in advance! By the way these tiles are very easy to clean with a neutral cleaner PH 7 we love supa star from research products which you can buy at any cleaning supply shop. Matt finish ceramics are fine too but stay away from tiles that have small pits in them as they are a maintenance nightmare to maintain also the tiles that have a rough surface again maintenance issues. When it comes to cleaning tiles indoors stay away from steam mops and anyo mops as they discolour grout very quickly stick with microfibre mops instead.
