kitchen - heights of benchtop/overhead cupboards etc

I know that most kitchen benchtops are 900 mm high, distance between the benchtop and o/h cupboards is somewhere between 500-600

Benchtop heights are whatever you feel comfortable with but the industry norm is around 900mm.

Ergonomically, worktops are placed at heights from between your wrist to your elbow (when your arms are at your side) depending on the task.

Some people are opting to have higher benchtops in the parts of kitchens that contain the sink, as the worksurface is the bottom of the sink - once again it depends how tall you are.

Wall units can again be any height - it is your kitchen.
Above a cooktop the AS/ANZ standard is minimum 600mm above electric tops and 650mm above gas.

For a microwave cupboard I would recommend having the base of the microwave around 480mm above the benchtop (1380mm from the floor). The rationale here is that one should not be lifting containers of potentially boiling materials down from higher than shoulder height - but you would still like to have some usable space beneath the cabinet.
Definitely say no to microwaves at head height or higher.

Many companies provide aluminium framed glazed doors - Nover, Laminex, Haefele, Polytec, Tekform et cetera.
We have 8mm edged frosted acrylic doors in our studio that are supplied by Nover; but the doors are actually made by a third party company who source the extrusion from Haefele.

I just checked our plans and our bench tops are 611mm and 654mm bench to range hood, don't now why not round numbers but i am sure they have their reasons.

That is strange - seeing as we are building the same house (Aspen 25), our measurements for kitchen - bench height 895mm, gap from bench to overheads 670mm (same height for rangehood), then cupboards are 720mm high.

We have our microwave space under the bench next to the oven.

Yeah, our benches are 20mm ceasarstone, but we also have the 900mm oven and glass canopy rangehood... We opted to have the microwave next to the oven so it wouldn't stuff up the island - either moving the cutlery drawers or making the corner difficult to access. I'm glad we figured out that there was no microwave provision before it was to late!

I'm 5'11 and my partner is 6'4 so we need to increase the bench height - I was thinking 1000 would be a good height for us both (although it is mostly me in the kitchen) so thanks Luke for the confirmation!

wow that is a really beautiful kitchen you've done there! I love the staggered bench heights - they make the kitchen look so much more interesting .....
