Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building update..We have bricks and a tractor! 62Aug 28, 2009 10:06 am Yeah guys we are very excited, its finally a reality and hopefully the weather is nice enough for the tradies to work safely and quickly and it may just go up quicker than we hoped or maybe they want us out of their hair quickly We have been very demanding but I am not apologising for that we just like to check 3 times and measure and fit once. Re: Building update..Which option would you go for? 63Oct 05, 2009 3:15 pm So we are now up to the 2nd storey. I drove passed Thursday and noticed 10 of the companies cars and at least the same amount of people standing inside our house with plans standing around.... I think we are nearly ready for the slab to be poured for the 2nd storey...alot of little ants running around this morning and hopefully the weather stays nice for them to keep on working. So far they have missed 4 power points and 2 light switches and 2 canister in slab down lights...which we paid xtra for. Our slab actually finishes half way across the laundry ceiling so we are wondering if they are planning on putting the normal ceiling lights in.....thats ok it just means a credit $ to us. This is us so far. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/07102009361.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0164.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0166.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0165.jpg Nothing overly exciting yet, but I am looking forward to the brickwork upstairs starting....yay Notice our very expensive retaining wall....there is alot of limestone holding that sand up and then a brick skin over it so we can render it later....It will be worth it in the long run...just a big outlay now. Re: Building update..Ground floor finished!... 64Oct 08, 2009 1:08 pm See Above Just edited post and added the photos from today....Yay Re: Building update..Ground floor finished!... 66Oct 08, 2009 9:55 pm Thanks Annie, We are slowly getting there, hopefully the weather stays nice for the next couple of weeks for all our sakes. Re: Building update..Ground floor finished!... 69Oct 11, 2009 9:34 pm Hey Donuts, Yes it has been a while....I have popping a little more often now that I have a reason to pop in Yay! Yes, I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into a bit of decorating.... Kk, yes I went passed today and noticed heaps has been done.... apparently all the electrical and plumbing will be run in next week and then second storey the week after.......so excited....and the wheather is supposed to be beautiful this week...fingers crossed. Re: GHome...Building update...we got plastered..Its really real! 70Jan 15, 2010 2:37 pm Hellooooo, well its really real. We have some fantastic progress thanks to our amazing SS and his great trade team and not to forget his wonderful office girl. They have been the saving grace for this company through this build. We are well ahead of schedule thanks to them and we are really greatful. Now that we are starting to look more like a house and its staring to become more of a reality for me I am feeling more excited about the whole process and thought I would share some piccies to celebrate. I just never thought I would be excited as its taken so long but I think the happy build train has arrived. So here is the facade...they are pulling down the scaff today. YOu can also see the side of the house which will be our backyard. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0982.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0983.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0984.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0985.jpg Here is our backyard and undercover Alfresco area. Yes I know its small, but its going to pack a punch once we have finished it, if all goes to plan. The 2 views of the Alfresco will both be bifold doors....opening up completely into the lounge room(where my bag is and the otherside will be the kitchen. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0977.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0976.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0975.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0981.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0980.jpg For the men, here is the garage and Dh has added his own little toy room..... sorry I mean storage room/shed.....we won't have enough room for a shed so this will be it. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0971.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0972.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0973.jpg Here is my shadow and my kitchen with window splashback, the view of the stairs from the lounge and standing in the kitchen looking at my little laptop, keys, phone and tv area....I can plug into the tv from the laptop and look at recipes etc on a large screen...love it. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0953.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0951.jpghttp://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0955.jpg Ok so thats down stairs..... and yes my title sais we got plastered but thats the upstairs part only and I will do the upstairs a bit later as this is a massive photo quota and I have already lost half the info once and don't want to do it all for the 3rd time. Loving my home finally.......and I think we may even move in one day Re: GHome...Building update...we got plastered..Its really real! 71Jan 15, 2010 2:48 pm Wow!! Fantastic progress!! It just looks so good!! I love it all! And knowing your gorgeous sense of style I can only imagine how beautiful it will look when you are in!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: GHome...Building update...we got plastered..Its really real! 72Jan 15, 2010 4:38 pm Thanks Bel, I am so looking forward to lock up and then the cabinets and then and then and then......I am just so looking forward to it all now.....Its really taken me a while to get to a point where I love my house.....I was being very guarded before in case it didn't all fall into place properly....but now its getting real. Re: GHome...Building update...and the photos just keep coming! 73Jan 16, 2010 3:02 pm Our entry, its only small but I love that we can see through to the other rooms and we have kept the bulkhead out to make it feel taller and the opening through to that area is also wider than normal. I will try and make a real feature in this nook.....still deciding what though, maybe wallpaper or nice lamp Our stairs sort of wrap around, crap for getting furniture in and out but great for saving space in our little abode. I do loove a nice big staircase though......maybe next time. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0952-1.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0970.jpg This is possibly the future nursery....don't get any ideas ...but at this stage thats what we call it. All the bedrooms have sliding robes and will all be Mirrored. I like this look in small rooms it just adds space and light. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0961-1.jpg This is my sanity time out room.....sorry I said that wrong, I will start again............. This is DS play room/toy room......its actually just another bedroom but we have added tv,xbox points so its dual use if we ever need to worry about that sort of thing and for resale if thats ever the case. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0958.jpg Ds bedroom, hope thats not a sign of the future seeing Wild turkey bottles sitting on his bedroom floor. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0962.jpg Ok this one is a bit different to most. This will be a study with 180degree hinged doors. We will build in the desk and shelving. You can see how deep it is. We measured how much depth we needed for comfortable seating and we are aware that we also have a laptop station downstairs. so this will be for DH mainly and DS when he gets to it....bills, general officey type stuff. We had to decide the importance of each room and how much space we need to dedicate to it as much as possible for this house to be cost effective and still workable. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0963-1.jpg http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0964-1.jpg I still have to take photos of our bedroom but they will come soon enough. Maybe I should get some opinions on what we should put in the entrance nook? Re: GHome...Building update...and the photos just keep coming! 74Jan 27, 2010 9:19 pm I wanted to fill you all in on our progress so far as it is still amazing to me that its actually going to be finished. I may have mentioned before we didn't expect our build to be finished untill at least August but mkore likely to be October......... so we have been plodding along renovating our house that we are in as we are expecting to sell it once we move into the build.........anyhoooooo the SS rang DH today and guess what they expect handover for the 1st of May... Whhhaaaaatttt!!!! Quick hubby get down to bunnings and get the rest of the kitchen to install in this reno................. I am so freaking out and so excited and so OMG.... hopefully new pics soon....as you can tell I don't post alot here but when I do I like to add pics..... Re: GHome...Building update...and the photos just keep coming! 75Jan 27, 2010 9:32 pm PK It's looking fab. OMG you will have to get a move on with the reno if it's going to be completed that soon. I look forward to the new round of photos. Re: GHome...Building update...and the photos just keep coming! 76Jan 28, 2010 9:05 am I know Kk Reno kitchen 1 side should be finished this weekend and next weeknd we will rip out the other side.... and I am currently researching for the build.....Wood floors, carpet, blinds, exposed agg, plants, paint colours.....and the list goes on. Re: Which option.....ideas welcome......page 4 77Jan 28, 2010 8:03 pm Hi guys we are getting down to the nitty gritty now and I thought I would ask some opinions...... I have this window in our main bedroom that does not extend all the way across but our bed will be situated in the middle of the room. So my feeling is the window or the bed will look lopsided........for some that may not know me I have a problem with OCD and straight lines....so always keep this in mind. http://i511.photobucket.com/albums/s360/gweluphome/IMG_0965.jpg I am thinking of a few different options.... 1. Is a full wall of curtains so you can't tell the window finishes short.. 2. Just white shutters like the rest of the house 3. A feature wall paint with a textured roman on both walls....the taller window wall also the wall that has the door to the WIR so this is not ideal to paint any other colour aother than the wall colour( a white of some description) So please share your thoughts ideas or photos..... Re: Which option.....ideas welcome......page 4 78Jan 28, 2010 8:26 pm We had an odd window in the loungeroom, it was supposed to be in the centre of two things and it didn't end up that way so I had the builder gyprock it in needless to say I'm not sure about yours PK Re: Which option.....ideas welcome......page 4 79Jan 28, 2010 9:38 pm I would think that window on the left would look more odd then the fact that the windows don't go all the way across on the right. Maybe if you put a feature piece of furniture there, a tall vase, or a thin vertical piece of art, so that the eye is drawn to that rather than the window. I would dress down the window dressings and dress up the furniture. Re: Which option.....ideas welcome......page 4 80Jan 29, 2010 7:08 am Hey PK! Hows your now straight and fabulous hair going?!! Can't help you with the window/curtain thing (although if pushed for an opinion I'd vote number 1, but what do I know ), but did want to say that the house is looking awesome! Oh and I needed to post so I could find your thread again! Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 10926 Newbie question for flooring options.
