I drew the line at the hallway though. I will have tiles through the entrance and kitchen/ casual dining (off kitchen) and wet areas. Carpet everywhere else, bedrooms, theatre, lounge, formal dining and upstairs. Nothing wrong with either. Whatever works best for you. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 7Jan 12, 2010 6:43 pm I have always had tiled floors in a hallway. As it gets alot of wear I think it handles it better then carpet, for me anyway. I do love the look and feel of carpet when you step into a hallway though. Building in Perth. Celebration homes Oasis. All you do is worry about every spot/wear and tear/muddy shoes etc etc. I hated mine so much I pulled it all up in the living rooms and painted the concrete floor I'll be renovating soon and am tiling the WHOLE house. Lynette ~making my dreams come true Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 11Jan 12, 2010 6:59 pm WOW!! I would have thought Id be in the minority! Tiles it is! Thanks guys and gals I WANT MY HOUSE TO START!! Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 13Jan 12, 2010 10:27 pm makoby Is this a bad thing? it would mean the only carpet we have is in all bedrooms, study and formal lounge. Is this tile 'overkill'? These are the only rooms we are carpeting, carpet in the hallway has too much wear & tear esp off wet & high traffic areas. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 14Jan 12, 2010 11:00 pm Its hard to say what is most appropriate unless we know the floorplan. Its up to you to consider carefully in what way the home is used, traffic in & out of the house etc. Which seems to be what you are doing, so that's a good thing! I might add that it is NOT as black and white as some seem to think. Carpets and tiles have their pros and cons, and it depends also which carpet is chosen, just as it does your choice of tiles, colour of grout etc. And either way, they require cleaning and maintenance. With tiles, they do soil, especially the grout. I clean both carpets and tiles professionally. I charge about double for tile cleaning per sq/m than I do for carpets. Personally, I'm not a big fan of tiles in living areas. Tiles in wet areas are enough for me. But if that's your choice of the greater hard floor areas, and you want to continue the hard floors, I guess tile them too. I suggest a good big carpet mat at the doorways to collect stuff entering from outside though. Ash. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 15Jan 13, 2010 12:11 am We're having tiles throughout the whole of our house. No carpet at all. In our last house we had wood throughout. Much easier to clean than carpet, especially with 3 cats and a toddler. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 16Jan 13, 2010 1:32 am Tiles throughout? I could not live in a place like that! Cold, hard, noisy, unforgiving, and grout a pain to keep clean. Toddlers are learning to get their feet. I recall my kids at that age. Falling over head first onto tiles.... YEEKS!!! Rather have nice soft carpets anyday! Ash. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 17Jan 13, 2010 6:57 am Tiles is a must in the hallway IMO and meals area too. Lets face it hallways most walked in area and in years time will show if you put carpet there. http://burbankascent2500.blogspot.com/ https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28503 [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/] HOUSE COMPLETED IN 119 DAYS PCI Complete Handover 24th August Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 18Jan 13, 2010 9:25 am another tiles in the hallway person here - so much easier! Tiles are 600x600 so the amount of grout is fairly minimal and way easier to clean than the various things that toddlers and cats find to squish into carpet Hard floors are definitely concern but even on the carpet we had some thin rubber play mats for the play areas when our daughter was learning to crawl/walk and the mats can be put in the washing machine. With the very hot summers we have in Adelaide cold tile floors are beautiful The house has been designed so that in winter the floors get a lot of sunlight so they should help keep the place warm. Re: tiles in the hallway instead of carpet?? 20Jan 13, 2010 10:06 am We've got a mix of all three medium: Timber, carpet and tiles. Solid timber floor in entrance, hallway, kitchen, family dining and family room. Carpet in formal dining, formal lounge, up the stairs, upstairs hallway, 4 bedrooms, study and rumpus. Tiles in ensuite, bathroom, laundry, back hallway and powder-room.
