Things cost roughly 2 to 3 times more overall for custom.. but we will get what we want I suppose. Custom we will go! Good luck to all. Anne, have you asked Carlisle about the changes you are willing to make? Who knows, they may be able to compromise.. But there a 2 balconies on the top floor already.. you want more? Ask them first before you jump straight to custom.. it will cost a lot, especially if you want a 51 square house! Good luck! Re: UPDATES!! Anne would like the house upside down to take advantage of views (living areas top floor), built on stumps which not many volume builders would even touch, and change the roof structure. And where did she mention insufficient number of balconies?... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: The CARLISLE HOMES & SPECTRA General Information Thread 626Jan 11, 2010 4:01 pm Hi, why do volume builders always insist on "waffle raft "slabs . I was told that waffle is when the concrete is poured on to the cleared and compacted soil with a plastic sheet underneath. Waffle slabs could after 10 or even 20 years depending on the weather conditions and change in moisture cause the slab to crack n move more(extreme understatement) ,this builder also told me the correct way is to dig trenches around before pouring the concrete. volume builders dont do that because its time consuming . any opinions !!! Re: The CARLISLE HOMES & SPECTRA General Information Thread 632Jan 12, 2010 7:59 pm The slab not to mention the frame is the most important part of the construction phase of a home . My slab should be down sometime in Feb10,potentially the hottest part of the year. the slab needs to cure & bleed a process which takes over 7 days.If there are very hot days could cause problems later down the track. I have requested that my slab be laid in march 10 and waiting on a response . Has anyone had there slab laid in either Jan or Dec and and endured hot humid weather at the time & any problems. info on slabs can be found on concretingassociation.net.au txs Re: The CARLISLE HOMES & SPECTRA General Information Thread 634Jan 12, 2010 8:10 pm Ari March is often stinking hot as well. Looks like we better get evaporative cooling!! Re: The CARLISLE HOMES & SPECTRA General Information Thread 635Jan 12, 2010 8:24 pm Andy just make sure the granos follow the curing methods indicated by the engineer. I poured a slab today and it was 40c, actually poured it on my own ( yeh dumb I know), but there is soo much going on at the moment, and no spare hands, still managed to lay plastic over it and flood the gingos out of it. andy The slab not to mention the frame is the most important part of the construction phase of a home .
