Re: The house hunt continues..... 4Jan 10, 2010 2:32 pm Ummm... knocking out that half wall in the dining room to open the area up more (the wall with the books along it). I like having a fire place, so i'd possibly keep that - although may upgrade it to a newer/more efficient model. Remodel the bathroom (was there two or just one?) Redo the kitchen - possibly pull the whole thing out or just keep the same layout (its difficult to really say as i've not seen in *in the flesh* LOL) I'd extend the back verandah to give a more outdoors area - not sure what rooms are along that wall tho, maybe open up the walls with bifolds?? Repainting internally and possibly repainting the exterior. It has a real *Victorian era* type look to it, so i'd want to be keeping that. ALong the front of the house i'd put a row of hybrid rose bushes to give it that *classic* feel as well. the yards i'd do SO MUCH with!!! Not sure what, but there's a huge amount of potential viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: The house hunt continues..... 5Jan 10, 2010 2:43 pm Cheers Jodie. Yes there is just one bathroom that sure needs a work over! It is a nice size so leave plenty of room for any ideas. I like your idea of opening up the living area as it is currently rather small and an odd shape. The fire place may be replaced with a split system as the roof has currently a black tinge to it from the fire and i dont want to have to be continually painting! Redoing the kitchen and extending the back verandah to an outdoor area are both in my plans! Im not sure on the painting of mudbrick, it has been treated however i think the current colour is the natural color of the bricks. I will be looking into this to explore ideas and may even look into seeing whether rendering is a possibility. Thanks for your input will be sure to keep them in mind if a purchase is to go ahead. Re: The house hunt continues..... 6Jan 10, 2010 2:58 pm Gorgeous, and not a bad asking price. So much potential! Is the bathroom in the same space as the laundry? Looks a big curtain divides the two rooms? I'd start with a coat of paint throughout and new window furnishings. New bench tops and tiles in the kitchen. That'll make a world of change. Re: The house hunt continues..... 7Jan 10, 2010 3:30 pm Thanks for your input, no the bathroom is seperate to the laundry. I cant work out why the installed a big curtain in that spot? The laundry is through the door that is just visible. The first point of call will certainly be the coat of paint! Re: The house hunt continues..... 9Jan 11, 2010 4:50 pm athomasd Im still on the hunt for a property and am exploring the possibility of this mud brick beauty. Only 15 years old, big block, low maintenance yards however could certainly do with a paint! What do you think? My only concern is the fact that it is mudbrick. I wonder can mudbrick houses be cement rendered????? They usually are rendered, but not with the kind of render you'd normally use on a brick house. From memory, it's a mix of cement, paint and mud.... I could be wrong though, it's been 20-odd years since I had anything to do with a muddie. There's some info here: http://www.mrmud.com.au/history.htm And there's even a forum here: http://www.ebaa.asn.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=240&sid=ae19fc77f59c2f7aa0e4f75b95145e58 I'm sure there are plenty of other online sources too. Onc is probably full of info too.
