Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 04, 2010 10:15 pm These are a bit of a hodge podge of DIY projects I've done recently, but I didn't want to start 4 different threads in different categories so I'm putting them under interior decorating, as it's all inside stuff =P Today I've been working on ripping up our carpet to stain and finish the floorboards underneath: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Yesterday I re-vamped an old lamp (though I don't really think the result is to my taste, so I'm shoving it in the guest room): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also sorted out the pantry, though the orange shelves HAVE to go, I bought white contact today to cover it up: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And painted a built in cupboard to give it a fresh new look: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm wondering if anyone can give me advice on what to do with the cupboard surface area, how to arrange things on top. It's below waist height so photos don't really work, the best I've come up with is a small palm and a bright blue vase. And last but not least, the other week I built a work desk in my study for all my handmade projects, and painted the wall, as well as tidying and sorting the shelves above it all Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (the blog post with before pics can be found here: http://mikaeladanvers.com/handmade-diy/diy-work-desk/) Has anyone else completed any DIY projects lately? The tank looks off balance, and needs to be centred, as this is basically what the cupboard is for, to hold the tank. So it should be the feature of the top. Centre the tank on an angle, then put pot plant one side and vase the other. That's all you need up there. I'm really please with how it came up, I thought it might be too white but it turned out ok! Thanks Michelle, unfortunately this is the only way that the tank will fit (it's too big for the cupboard as it is), so we can't move it around at all or it will hang off the edge. You're right though, I think it's the unbalanced appearance that is making it hard to get right. Unfortunately can't even turn the tank the other way as that side of the cupboard is too narrow to hold it, it will jut out over the front. Eventually we will get a custom cupboard built for it (this one is built in, we had 2 but I ripped the other one out and boy howdy was it a b*tch to remove), but for now we are stuck with the tank the way it is. 0 2382 Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 5478 |
