Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 15Dec 17, 2009 12:40 am I'm getting a bin cupboard put in, so it pulls out like an underbench pull out pantry, except surprise! Rubbish, not food I wanted a pull out linen hamper cupboard too in my laundry but sadly there wasn't enough room if I wanted my linen cupboard with broom/ironing board section. I might just buy a basket to put in the linen and remove the lowest shelf to fit it. If I had thought about it better I would have MADE it fit, so it's driving me bonkers now cos I don't want to be able to see a linen hamper!!! So trust me, do what you can to get your bin hidden, you'll be glad you did! Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 16Dec 17, 2009 7:41 am buildingwithhamra Felistopher my kitchen is similar to yours but I have the fridge in that void of your pantry. You could loose a door and do the same. That's a good idea but we can't do it unfortunately. I had asked for that void to be shelving space (as I thought its only purpose was for return air, and we're getting refrig air con) but Henley said they need the void for plumbing pipes, which I can see they put in when the slab was poured. dilla Your kitchen layout is nearly exactly the same as mine When I tried to explain what I wanted, the kitchen lady suggested I take the shelf out under the sink and use that cupboard, but I don't think you would be able to fit a decent sized bin under the sink. I ended up convincing her that I wanted the cupboard on the far left as my 'bin cupboard'. I think I will be making most of the mess near the sink - peeling vegies etc, so wanted it close by. I don't think next to the oven would be as good a place because I doubt you'll do your 'prep' work over there - the light won't be as good, you'll be facing the wall instead of facing out to the living area and talking - it's much more social to do the 'prep' work on the island bench and the cooking only on the oven side. I'd think it would be more convenient on the island. Also, if I was cooking, I wouldn't want someone trying to get under my feet to use the bin. The island bin cupboard would be more 'out of the way of all the action'! Everything you say makes sense. I don't think I'd get a large enough one under the sink either. And you're right, I'll probably do most prep on the island bench next to the sink. That looks like a goer.... shell83 The one we got fitted perfectly into the top shelf of the cupboard, just needed a couple of screws to hold it in place. When it slides back in its fully enclosed so it doesn't stink out the rest of the cupboard (its not a sectioned of cupboard unfortunately ). We got it from Bunnings, the brand is Kimberely (http://www.kimprod.com.au/waste.htm) and they were very reasonably priced compared to a few others we looked at. Not a bad solution as an after-thought, I love being able to slide my scraps off the bench straight into the cupboard below! I think we'll go for this one because it is the biggest double bin I can find (32 litres for each bin) and it uses up all the cupboard space. It's the one in the bottom right hand corner of the page. Found it at http://www.thestorageshop.net.au/pullout_bins.html Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 17Dec 17, 2009 7:58 am Wow! So many combinations. Ours looks like a cupboard but with a horizontal handle and which pulls the bin out. Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 18Dec 17, 2009 11:31 am shell83 - that is exactly our bin I find it a good size and easy to use - we recycle all our tins, jars, boxes etc, and have a separate box next to the bin for paper recycles so the rubbish only has to be emptied about every 2nd day (household of 3 people), also the plastic shopping bags are a perfect fit as liners. Utilises the wasted space under the sink too - if you dont have the bin there, what will you use this space for? I think they look nice enough - anyway it is behind closed doors most of the time so appearance wasnt really the issue Single use plastic shopping bags are banned in SA now but I still have a stock pile from before the ban Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 19Dec 17, 2009 11:44 am Dollar Wow! So many combinations. Ours looks like a cupboard but with a horizontal handle and which pulls the bin out. Yes that is how mine will look! Wish my kitchen was in so I could take a photo Hopefully not too much longer til it's finished!! Re: Where do you put your rubbish bin? 20Dec 17, 2009 11:54 am We have ages to wait Katie. Only up to the plastering. I am looking forward to using the bin! 0 9797 I’m loving the potential versatility and practicality of a bench seat in a shower. Anyone had one of these done recently? Not sure if they are straight forward and easy… 0 749 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39469 |
