How did they get in if it was totally completed? wasn't it locked up? Obviously not, so strange, hubby saw them...glad I didn't that is the height of rudeness! and especially to be taking photo's too Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 30Dec 13, 2009 12:16 am Ouch! That's crazy. I've done it once at frame stage and I felt really really ***. So yeah, I'd say I'm definitely against it. And if you're at lockup already then I'd be *definitely* annoyed because anything can happen once someone is hidden from view. Plus, new estates are havens for site theft. The annoying thing is that most temporary fencing is either easily opened or just left open by tradies. Bugs me to no end when I find half our fencing opened up because some neighbour wanted to use my backyard for site access into their backyard, sending heavy machinery over soft ground that has pipework below. But that's a different rant Surely once there are walls up, it's a no go zone. Has anyone here had a sticky beak after brick work was up? Did you feel strange doing it? Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 31Dec 13, 2009 7:44 am I am building one of 24 units and we all look through each others and we are at lock up stage (although alot of doors are left unlocked or open), but I don't mind because I own one, but I wouldn't do it somewhere else. Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 32Dec 13, 2009 7:49 am Hmmm I've never walked through someones house without them being there. I am a very curious person and love to see peoples houses but usually ask them when they are there if I can have a sticky beak. Not quite the same, but we completely stripped and renovated one of our investment properties and the nosey neighbour next door would wait until we left and would go inside while the tradies were still there and have a good look. I wasn't too happy. Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 33Dec 13, 2009 8:27 am When we were planning on building the first time our builder , a small private builder sent us off to look at 2 houses he was working on so we could check out the workmanship. He did the same when our build was on. Sent some of his prospective clients over to check out the quality. I actually don't remember walking through anyone elses house last time we built apart from the houses the builder sent us to check out. When we were house plan hunting this time we had one sales person direct us to a part build house in the next street that was the design we wanted. Another time we were told about a couple of builds next to each of the same house plan as we were considering but with slight variations and 2 different facades and it was suggested we check them out even though they were at lock up and close to being finished. The sales person suggested we drive around and peek through the windows. Would have been fine but they were 2 houses next to each other and it turned out one had been handed over and the people had moved in. When we got out to look around the empty house, as suggested by the sales person the new neighbours came to ask us what we were doing. We explained but they weren't too happy as the house was being built for a family member. Same building company both times ( V) . Same house plan, just variations of it. We often found people having a look at our place as it was being built and a few people we know in town had commented they'd had a look too. We were the only build/house around this little bit of town here and it's an area where a lot of people go for walks. I've had a walk on the slab of the new house being built across from us. I like imagining what is where and how it might look when the walls go up. I will most likely have another peek once the walls go up. Even for the owner it is really trespassing also whilst in construction. I did it and still do it heaps... and I'm sure heaps of people went through our house.. and that doesn't worry me one bit! Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 35Dec 13, 2009 8:55 am Gosh i would never walk through a house that was near completion or locked up. when our house was "locked up" we always found a way in but i would never do that to someone elses house and i wouldnt expect someone to try and get into ours. If landscaping has been done, well thats one of the last things to be done usually so thats really stepping over the line! I only meant houses at say frame stage... Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 36Dec 13, 2009 9:40 am I dont mind as long as I know them. So neighbours are fine, but strangers are not. My dad has owned the block for 30 years, so most of the neighbours have seen me grow up. What annoys me is that my neighbours have * that they have had a look. My dad asked my neighbours if they had had a walk through, and they said no, so dad went on to explain, that I am building a 3 bedroom, no she pipes up its a four, well dear how would you know unless you have walked through, LIAR, I invited my other neighbours over last night, and they said they had a look once, and couldnt work out how my kitchen was organised. I have no problem with that. I have walked through a townhouse my builder was building, but another one around the corner was a different buider and I felt guilty to have a look, so I didnt. Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 37Dec 13, 2009 9:58 am I certainly couldn't imagine walking through a house that was close to lockup without instructions to do so ( aka when the sales person suggested we look). I have driven past and stopped outside of gweluphomes house but would never consider getting out or walking through unless she was there. The same for anyones really. If i do peek at the house across from us it will likely be once off well before lockup. The daughter of the man who is building there lives here in town and teaches at my sons school and I've chatted to her once and handed on the H1 website address suggesting she pass it on to her father as I think he would find this a great site. He lives in Perth somewhere still.( 2 1/2 hours away) I haven't met or seen him yet. He was meant to be coming down this weekend so I have been looking for him. Oh and I certainly couldn't imagine going into a build that was fenced off. There's a house near where my mum lives that I would dearly have loved to have peeked in. it was being built in quite an unusual way . If I'd lived next door to it I probably would have tried to catch the owner and asked to have a look through. It's a totaly invasion of privacy and tresspassing. If I caught someone who jumped the fence to look in ours I would be having quite a few words! And for the record I have never and would never do it to anyone else - even over the 9 months that our neighbours built it never crossed my mind - though it did for many other people who followed through! I wouldn't bother jumping a fence.. in our council there is no requirement for temp fencing so they are all open for display!! Re: Is it ok for someone to walk through your house? 40Dec 13, 2009 4:28 pm Yes I'm with you wakeboardandy - no, I wouldnt jump a fence (might break my leg ) but I'll walk thru houses open to the street - if they are just at frame stage, nothing to take, its just interest in floor plans and such, Im sure other people did this with ours too, not a problem, I just dont think this is something worth getting all precious about Do you really want to accommodate the window?
