Browse Forums Paving & Concreting 1 Dec 08, 2009 1:14 pm Hi all, I need a bit advise from you all. I have my porch and drive way concreated with exposed aggregrate few weeks ago. Unfortunately after couple days, I can see there is a crack on this concreate. My concreate claimed that this is normal on concreate, specially hairline crack. Well I found that this is subjective. I am not convinced if this is hairline as you can see the crack when you step on it close to the area. I understand to fix this will be not easy too because it is exposed aggregrate. What is the standard practice of concreater, do we have any warranty and does the warranty includes that? Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 2Dec 08, 2009 1:36 pm Your warranty is limited to the goodness of your grano. A hairline crack is hair thickness 0.1mm. If you are worried you could ask the grano, is this standard? You could ask him (presumably) if they used a curing agent. I'd be tipping they didn't. I was at a house warming party the other night (sat) and the lady was very happy with the work we did. 1. Poured the slab. 2. Polished and stained the slab. 3. Built, polished and installed the benchtops. 4. Alfresco exposed agg. 5. a few aprons (exposed) near to exits. 6. Built a rectangle pond The slab was poured in feb and was at the limit of temperature ( above really 44c but for the sake of moving along with the build) We went ahead... The slab did crack, (prior plan meeting I suggested the slab would crack at a point because of the design) Though we did a little epoxy injection to my sasticfaction and now all is good, but still noticeable. Nothing else cracked because of proper curing methods. Oh and yes we did cure the house slab, just that the shape, a big bedroom via a narrow neck of concrete. Now this doesn't help you at all msetjadi. But might give you a clue to having some work done to repair cracks that are larger than 1mm, being that the driveway is external and will be subject to weather conditions and will hopefully have mesh, it would be worthy to ask if they would consider making some reparation(discount) for the work needed. Do you have any photos? Onc Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 3Dec 09, 2009 11:45 am Thank You Cnc, you help me a lot. What do you think the below crack? Is this considered hairline crack or job that is not done properly? Would this crack be worse in times? Any thought is appreciated. Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 4Dec 09, 2009 12:04 pm Hmmm... well those cracks are because of the tension in the slab. The cuts(control jointing) that were made are too shallow, and should have been done during the pour with a trowel and then re-cut ASAP after cure. How long was it before they did the cuts? Yes some epoxy injection would help control the cracking and reduce the likely hood of corrosion. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 6Dec 09, 2009 1:10 pm Epoxy will void fill and re-glue the sides of the crack. Will epoxy hide the crack, well let say if the crack isn't filled then the dirt that fills it will be a lot more visible than the neutral epoxy. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 7Dec 09, 2009 6:11 pm there is no concretor that will guarantee against cracking, as long as all efforts and correct installation practices are done, concrete can and does crack. The saw cut control joint should be around 25mm deep in 100mm of concrete (assuming they used 50/65 reo chairs) and installed in the correct stress points. Expansion foam should also be installed at the correct points. Maybe take a picture of the whole area so we can see. Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 9Dec 09, 2009 7:23 pm The tension has been released now. Drilling a hole would happen as part of the process I'd say no wet(with a trowel) cut was made during placement. Davinci says no concreter will guarantee against cracking fair enough. But since we are in the business we should make the job good right? We are the professionals here, not the client paying $100 plus a square metre for a decorative concrete finish. A crack like that would likely take about 2 hours to prepare n flood and material about $80 max. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... How was it fixed? My driveway looks like identical mix and finish, it was poured about 4 months ago and I have just noticed a similar hairline crack. Only noticed after some rain and could see a darker line where the moisture is coming back out the tiny hairline crack Re: Hairline crack in exposed aggregate 12Jan 13, 2018 7:25 pm Identical issue here Coreyb, 4 months after similar crack, asked the concrete and he said it is because of Land movement, is that correct??
