I didn't know you could change the nature strip?! [sneakersss] Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 5Jan 05, 2008 1:11 am Hi everyone the garden looks great, I will be very interested to see what they do with there nature strip, I wanted to have no lawn at all at the front, so I have used river stone, large rocks, pots and plants, and on the nature strip which has taken me awhile to decide what to do I was going to put large rocks and small rock garden at one end and fine topping over the rest for cars to park the day after the rocks arrived I got a visit from council, he said he was just driving by no complaint from anyone Ha!Ha! and he informed me that we were not to put rocks or pebble on the nature strip because it was owned by council, after a few words like "take a look at all our neighbours they all have the same" and if you want us to have grass are you going to mow and water it. Of coarse I said all this as nice as possible and he just said I will give you until tomorrow to remove them, so we did. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 6Jan 05, 2008 9:02 am It does look nice Phoenix, another bonus when people take pride in the way their houses look it tends to lift the quality of the estate. I also like the way they have used lighting to highlight their house and features. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 7Jan 05, 2008 9:09 am The lighting does make a difference too doesn't it.. I like the idea of using downlights under the eaves to highlight the home as well as up and down feature lights.
I think a lot of thought has gone into the garden in it's colours and how they compliment the facade of the home. The render picks up the colour of the sandstone capping and the use of timber as a feature looks great too. If you didn't know, you'd think this house is a display home- i think the garden is as good or better than any display in our estate (The Chase- Berwick)??? Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 10Jan 05, 2008 9:43 am Yeah, I'm not a great fan of having ready throwing materials (rocks) right out the front of your house. This is another reason we have eaves, and used down lights around the house. At night they show off the features in my biased opinion. I’ll be over Berwick way this afternoon, if I get time I swing by The Chase for a look see. We are over Berwick way quite regularly, so if not today it’ll be in the not too distant future. Have fun!!! Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 13Jan 05, 2008 10:55 am royalblue No what's really sad is the giraffe they killed to make the garden bed walls! I love this style of home. All the elements are there! Stone, timber, render and brick……well balanced and looks fantastic! Wish it was the front of my place. Up here you also wouldn't be allowed to change the nature strip as it is owned by council.... The lighting is amazing though and I love the feel of the way they have done the front, just lose the crazy paving and I'd like it more Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 16Jan 05, 2008 11:01 am Michelle I love this style of home. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 17Jan 05, 2008 11:05 am BTW anyone considering lighting up the outside of their homes should take a drive around some of the suburbs in the evening to get some ideas. My philosophy on lighting both internal and external is it should add to the mood and presentation but should not draw attention to lights.
The photo that Phoenix posted earlier is quite a good example (although the angle of the photo looks a bit low), you are taken with the house and garden and don’t quite understand what makes it stand out if you get my drift. Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 18Jan 05, 2008 11:09 am When I’m choosing selections for new homes, I try to talk the client into introducing a stone wall somewhere on the façade. But unfortunately the cost of it puts them off.
So they don’t get to appreciate the effects of all the elements. Where I live on the south coast of NSW, colorbond and timber is till big, I’m over the colorbond…..and out by the water too much timber means too much up-keep. It’s hard call at times. ENJOY!!! Re: What a stunning front garden!!!! 20Jan 08, 2008 6:42 am How many times did you do a “drive by” to get the photos?
