It doesn't cost us any more, but what it does mean is another one needs to be ordered and more 'unforseen' delays to the construction. (which indirectly adds costs to everyone.. coz time is money... Re: Porter Davis homes 76Jan 30, 2007 6:13 pm We also are building with PD the Heywood 28 in Whittlesea which is in the north of Melbourne. We also had to pay the 3k for being out of there area. We went through the Mernda Offices and were told about the 3k after we payed the $600. PD prices are very differnt in price to what you can get if you shop around yourself. Like flooring we wanted floating flooring through our house so we got a quote from them 17k for the boards. We through this to be a bit high so we shopped around and we got timber flooring not floating for 10k and carpet which they quoted as $4500 we can get for $3500 which is ten times better then they have in the standed range. PD also don't seem to like you getting stuff for the house yourself as the Company we work for we are able to get things cheaper then what PD can. Other then that so far so good. Re: Porter Davis homes 77Jan 31, 2007 12:24 am Yamster we had our sink stolen! who steals sinks?!!! The same sort of person who steals an air con unit...or half a sliding door (someone suggested it was to replace part of the door they stole from us a couple of months ago)...or towel rails (according to the people down the road)...I mean who bothers to steal towel rails when you can pick them up for less than $20??! FirstHome PD also don't seem to like you getting stuff for the house yourself I think it depends a bit on who you're dealing with at PD. Our sales guy was very frank with us that not everything PD can offer is a good price & he strongly recommended us to source some items ourselves as PD simply couldn't do a decent price for them. Our site manager has also been good about letting us do some things ourselves or source them through other companies. For example, PD weren't going to insulate between the floors but hubby is a sound nazi & really wanted as much insualtion as he could to reduce noise inside - especially round the media room. Our site manager said he wasn't going to do between-floor insualtion as he couldn't add to our order & the plastering was going up the next day...but that if someone happened to go in & install insulation that night before they plastered, he wouldn't remove it - they would just plaster over it. So that's what we did. And we now have accoustic insulation between floors. Re: Porter Davis homes 78Jan 31, 2007 7:38 am Vandals and robbers are such a burden. They seem to ruin what should be a generally pleasant and exciting experience for home builders.
My partner and I drove past our block on the weekend and while there we drive around the estate looking at other people's houses and see how they're progressing. We saw one house with grafitti all over the front and door and window plus one set of windows completely smashed. The house next to it had two sets of sliding doors completely smashed, too. We had our contract appointment a couple of days ago and the lady presenting it to us told us the story about how her sister's island benchtop was stolen. Mind you, she said, it was just a standard laminate benchtop. It wasn't even stone or granite. I pressume that whoever stole her benchtop was the same person who stole Yamster's sink and epiphany's aircon and sliding door. Maybe they're building a house out of everyone else's bits and pieces. [sneakersss] Re: Porter Davis homes 79Jan 31, 2007 7:53 am Then you get the people who wander round your site looking for anything that isn't nailed down. I was onsite last week re-securing all the doors (how come, when you're at lock up, nothing is actually locked up & you can still get into the house??!) after a friend drove past & noticed someone had tried to remove our nice wooden windows...again...even though they're already installed & plastered round (so they damaged the plaster as well). While I was inside, a couple with a baby walked past. I noticed the woman standing outside the site & my friend went out to tell her to leave as she was on private property. Said woman then started yelling in Cantonese at someone & it was then we realised her husband was brazenly walking round the house, despite it being obvious someone was onsite. My friend's hubby went out & told him to leave but he wouldn't go. He claimed he was looking at the house plan. He was actually looking to see if there was anything on the property worth taking (eg wood, bricks, etc) & absolutely refused to leave until my friend's hubby got quite insistant.
Our neighbours-to-be are having trouble with people dumping rubbish on the site. They have a skip outside (we don't...PD seem to use sack-type things instead) & our neighbour-to-be was saying that the other day some nice member of the community dumped a whole lot of soiled baby nappies on the building site, among other things. Yuck. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12337 Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 74702 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 105564 |
