Re: Shower tiled or ? 5Nov 13, 2009 10:27 am Thanks PC. I was referring (trying to refer ) to the walls only in my above effort. From memory the folded walls were about $500 or thereabouts. Your estimated costs I presume include the base and screens as well? regards Re: Shower tiled or ? 6Nov 13, 2009 1:43 pm We get asked for tile alternatives all the tile. Plastic walls are the cheapest and easiet alternative and work well, but many people do not like the look, Next up in cost is laminate and Laminex have wet area pannelling. This is better and comes in a variety of colour and style. I alwys think it will be good, but then stumble when it comes to joining, they sell edging strips etc, but they do not look to great. I have seen them siliconed together, but again this may not work 100% and water may get in. Glass is a great next alternative but tends to be cost prohibitive. $4-500 per sqm installed. Ace for cleaning tho.... Will last forever without mould. My parents bathroom still looks new after 20 years on the first silicone application and the original grout. Is a bit of a b%&^ch to get into the habbit of but once you get everyone over that initial hurdle.... Jack Re: Shower tiled or ? 11Dec 26, 2009 5:47 pm Hi there, I know it's been a while since this post was commented on, but we were recently in this same position and can relate. I hate cleaning the shower!!! It takes forever to clean the grout and is such a pain so when we renovated our bathroom we looked at other alternatives and decided to go with ceramalite panels which are I guess like a laminate panel and they have been nothing but trouble!! Now I wish that I had stuck with tiles and would def go back to cleaning tiles if given the option! I also think a dark tile in the bathroom looks great and I would advise to go with tiles because as much as they are a pain to clean, you don't want the alternative! Hope this helps a little if you are still unsure or deciding what to do! Bek Bek I'm back Re: Shower tiled or ? 13May 18, 2010 10:26 pm Acrylic wall sheets work great! But glass would look the best, but works out the be some $200 per sqr metre. I think it has to be at least 12mm toughen glass and then have to get some one to install it. I personally think tiles look the best, but grout is porous and will has the problem of mould growing in it. Marbletrend has acrylic walls, however, I wouldn't get the one with the moulded soap holder, looks like trouble. Make sure you get acrylic walls that are PVC capped acrylic, I used some cheap walls from a major green home ware centre, it wasn't suitable for wet areas. Re: Shower tiled or ? 14May 26, 2010 2:01 pm I've found these guys do poly marble bases, there is a small write up on poly marble. http://www.showerline.com.au. Also I read this that might help also - http://www.improvemyhome.com.au/articles/bathrooms/bathroom-shower-bases No, I even have sections of narrowness where the tiles won't slide up any further.
