If your builder can't cope with you saying it's just White I'd be suprised. Yes….that’s what they call it Ceiling White….makes me laugh!!! I met a painter who told me he puts black in his ceiling white He said it hides the imperfections of the plaster. I said…not really white then? he said…..NO So what’s the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In residential housing they use a plaster finsih level called level 4, this is typical it is basically plasterboard taped with three layers of plaster skimmed on it first being base coat, Almost all homes are done this way, to have perfectly flat walls and ceilings a level 5 finish must be used, this involves rolling or spraying on a coat of plaster then it being skimmed etc, most people will rarely see this done. Origanally because the Joins in plasterboard started throwing shadows accross ceilings mainly where the sheets are joined with a level 4 finish painters started to use either a. black tinter or b. ochre or a combination to hide slight imperfections or shadows found with level four plaster finishs. Now it is common use to use "builders white " which at dulux is alittle black, at bristle alittle black and alittle ochre (i believe i dont use bristol paints) ...... they also now release common trade paints that come manufactured with slights amounts of black in it. A true white is called "Vivid White" from dulux, it will contain no tinters thats for walls <-- to have a true white ceiling you need to use a ceiling flat that is manufactured with no tinters A common product from dulux thats a true white is "dulux tintable ceiling flat" Any "of white is white" to look at unless you compare it to something whiter lmao <00hows that for confusion) Personally I use no tinters in my ceilings if a client asks for white, and the look is prestine perfect crisp white, looks fantastic. If you use a colour that is considered an off-white like antique white against a ceiling that pure, you will very quickly notice how pink antique white is. have i just added to the confusion ?????? lol tried my best Re: White isn't white....apparently! 13Nov 10, 2009 5:12 am NO…that’s great info …..thank you so much! Can it be used on architraves, skirting and doors (I'm assuming yes for architraves but no for skirting and doors as these should be gloss....shouldn't they??). With a young family, I'm liking the idea of easy wipe down gloss! Re: White isn't white....apparently! 15Nov 11, 2009 6:31 am no no, tintable ceiling flat is purely for ceilings, it cannot be washed or cleaned designed just for ceilings, if you want pure white on everything use....
