I have found it teamed with whisper white (B18) on the dulux webpage but not sure about it. I want a nice crisp white, but don't want to be blinded (we are having a high raked ceiling through kitchen/living area so it will be on show). Thanks! I have painted the whole interior of my house with 1/2 White Duck, ceilings, skirtings...the lot, but it's not white, it's actually a very pale grey but because I don't have white ceilings it's not obviously not white I have used Whisper White in the past, to me it's a creamier white, as opposed to White on White. Antique White USA is another I have used, it's a nice white without being blinding. Re: White isn't white....apparently! 3Nov 06, 2009 2:14 pm Yes, we have Stone White on all our walls and double strength Stone White on doors and skirtings - but it is definetly not white, it is more of a light cream, which is fine, that's what we wanted. Against the ceilings which are true white, it is very different. Im not sure which white is best for you but yes, there are many different 'whites'. Re: White isn't white....apparently! 4Nov 06, 2009 2:27 pm You want pure white….no tints, not shades!!! Pure white! Remember what white used to be like…..white, that’s what you want. Ohhh boy no wonder people get so confused all these whites and none of them really white! I like the Lexicon but i think it is more of a grey white but it looks white to me. I think it has a tint of black in it, am i right Michelle? Here is a picture for you to look at anyway to see what you think. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x185/kimt05/001.jpg Re: White isn't white....apparently! 6Nov 07, 2009 11:04 am Thanks so much guys! Michelle, I have to give my builder a Dulux paint colour name, is there one that you can recommend that doesn't have tints? I've been staring at samples of all the colours mentioned & can't decide - they all look different in different lights. SuH are you happy with the 1/2 strength? I really don't like beige walls so am going for a greyish look, with abit of colour but not too dark (if I'm making any sense ) Re: White isn't white....apparently! 7Nov 07, 2009 11:28 am farmmum Thanks so much guys! If your builder can't cope with you saying it's just White I'd be suprised. Yes….that’s what they call it Ceiling White….makes me laugh!!! I met a painter who told me he puts black in his ceiling white He said it hides the imperfections of the plaster. I said…not really white then? he said…..NO So what’s the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I met a painter who told me he puts black in his ceiling white He said it hides the imperfections of the plaster. I said…not really white then? he said…..NO So what’s the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In residential housing they use a plaster finsih level called level 4, this is typical it is basically plasterboard taped with three layers of plaster skimmed on it first being base coat, Almost all homes are done this way, to have perfectly flat walls and ceilings a level 5 finish must be used, this involves rolling or spraying on a coat of plaster then it being skimmed etc, most people will rarely see this done. Origanally because the Joins in plasterboard started throwing shadows accross ceilings mainly where the sheets are joined with a level 4 finish painters started to use either a. black tinter or b. ochre or a combination to hide slight imperfections or shadows found with level four plaster finishs. Now it is common use to use "builders white " which at dulux is alittle black, at bristle alittle black and alittle ochre (i believe i dont use bristol paints) ...... they also now release common trade paints that come manufactured with slights amounts of black in it. A true white is called "Vivid White" from dulux, it will contain no tinters thats for walls <-- to have a true white ceiling you need to use a ceiling flat that is manufactured with no tinters A common product from dulux thats a true white is "dulux tintable ceiling flat" Any "of white is white" to look at unless you compare it to something whiter lmao <00hows that for confusion) Personally I use no tinters in my ceilings if a client asks for white, and the look is prestine perfect crisp white, looks fantastic. If you use a colour that is considered an off-white like antique white against a ceiling that pure, you will very quickly notice how pink antique white is. have i just added to the confusion ?????? lol tried my best Re: White isn't white....apparently! 13Nov 10, 2009 5:12 am NO…that’s great info …..thank you so much! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: White isn't white....apparently! 14Nov 10, 2009 12:51 pm Excellent, thanks swarvy sounds like dulux tintable ceiling flat would be just what I am after. Can it be used on architraves, skirting and doors (I'm assuming yes for architraves but no for skirting and doors as these should be gloss....shouldn't they??). With a young family, I'm liking the idea of easy wipe down gloss! Re: White isn't white....apparently! 15Nov 11, 2009 6:31 am no no, tintable ceiling flat is purely for ceilings, it cannot be washed or cleaned designed just for ceilings, if you want pure white on everything use.... Dulux professional tintable ceiling flat for ceilings Dulux wash and wear 101 low sheen on walls or dulux professional premium low sheen acrylic water based trims - aqua-namel gloss or semi gloss or professinal premium oil based enamel. all come with no tints unless you ask for them each product is roughly $16 per litre for retail.
