Browse Forums Kitchen Appliances 1 Nov 01, 2009 12:45 pm Hi everyone, I am about to buy a new freestanding oven, I currently have a white one and it has had it! Anyway we are tossing up between Stainless Steel or White. I am wondering what your opionions are based on what you have, I hear the Stainless Steel is a real pain to clean? Thanks Re: Stainless Steel verses White Oven 3Nov 01, 2009 3:40 pm I think I am about the only person left in the world who prefers white to stainless steel Which I know is a result of working in residential institutions where the kitchens are all huge heavy duty stainless steel and look so cold and clinical, almost like morgues Of course, I am not saying eveyones home kitchens look like this but I think it has clouded my judgement Re: Stainless Steel verses White Oven 4Nov 01, 2009 5:15 pm Depends on what the rest of your appliances are? We are having stainless because all of our appliances are stainless - 2x fridges, rangehood, freestanding cooker & dishwasher. Plus the surrounds on some of our cupboards are matching metal so it all tones in together. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Stainless Steel verses White Oven 10Nov 03, 2009 11:15 am mishb Stainless, if only for the resale value. I personally don't think it's as durable (finger smudges, and it scratches easily) but it's all that sells these days. I'm going to be devils advocate then Do you think resale value would drop if you had something like this in place? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or trendy black built-in? But the original poster asked SS vs traditional white enamel, in this case I think SS wins out in almost every time. Re: Stainless Steel verses White Oven 12Nov 04, 2009 5:15 pm I will be starting to build very shortly and have already bought the appliances and guess what?...they are WHITE!! Why, because that's what I like. So Loniaj, my advice is if you prefer white appliances then buy white appliances as I've asked quite a few people who have S/S and they all agree it's a pita to clean. Having said that, I wipe my convection microwave (white) every day so it's not a huge job. My oven/cooktop/sink/mixer are Kleenmaid bought on eBay so if you want contact details please PM me and I can share the email address etc. For the record, I bought $5000 (rrp) worth and paid $1000 and I don't really care about resale because by the time that happens a new owner would most likely want to renovate the whole house anyway!! Buying for some future buyer could mean you are living with something you don't really like, or want, for many years. Forget it!!
