Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 17, 2007 5:58 pm My MIL has been approached by Mega to build a new house, and is thinking of including us in the deal.
Their Melbourne display homes are not due to be finished untill Jan/Feb 08 but apparently they have been around QLD for some time. Any feedback would be very helpful. Thank you, Kim Re: Has anybody heard of Mega Homes? 2Dec 17, 2007 6:16 pm Hi Kimmy, i have dealt with Mega homes, but not built with them as such.
We were bidding on a home (executors auction) that they built to lock up stage in Narre Warren Sth mid this year.... I did a bit of digging and found out they were the builder, then contacted them to see if they would finish the build. They said yes at first and then said no....i was dealing with a guy by the name of Rocco. In the end we walked away as by the time we bought the house and paid for someone to finish the build, it was overcapitalising - especially for the area. If you want to check out the house, let me know and i'll give you the address so that you can look at it if you want. From what we saw, the quality of the home was great, no issues - but you'd want to see the quality first hand before you make a decision. Re: Has anybody heard of Mega Homes? 3Dec 17, 2007 10:23 pm Our current rental was built by Mega Homes (or so I believe based on bits and pieces laying around - like carpet offcuts).
Quality isn't that great (little things - like ******* paint work, hot in summer cold in winter - would love to know what insulation they use so we DON'T use it!). If you want to PM me I can email you some photos. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Has anybody heard of Mega Homes? 4Dec 18, 2007 8:31 am Hi Kimmy,
Approximately a year ago I was considering to build with them. They explained to me, their customers were people who didn't have enough deposit. They also said that they were not cheap comparing to other big builders, but they claimed that their quality was much better. The thing is that I was a contractor that time and could not get a finance. From the beginning they attracted me with a help to get finance without 5% deposit requirement. However, they didn't explain how exactly they were going to do that. We have seen their display houses and didn't like them much maybe because they had simple inclusions, however they had flooring and driveway included. As they said, what you see what you get. Also there was not much choice in plans. And when we came to the quotation appointment we were actually presented only one plan. We did not like the plan, but the sales person said that we can make any changes to the plan. So in a hurry we modified the plan. I did not like that we were pushed. That time the quote for approx 30 sq was $230 K. It seemed to me too high. Furthermore there was no luxury inclusions like high ceilings, stone benchtops etc. After I got a quote I insisted that they explained me how exactly they were going to help me. It turned out that they wanted to increase the price of the contract by the sum I didn't have and to give me a rebate or sort of discount, so it would look like I had %5 deposit. Also they said they had power to get finance for me with Bank of Queensland despite I was a contractor. We walked away because we didn't like this ******* scheme. Even if it worked out I would get negative equity and paid extra LMI. Otherwise we would get in trouble I think. However, after some time when we purchased a block of land in new release. I noticed there was a single-storey house being built by them close to our place. As I checked regularly the progress of our release I watched the progress of this house. And this is what I noticed: - As far as I could see, the distance between frame studs was 450 mm as they had claimed before. - Brickwork around garage. They (the builder) also had claimed that it was one of their advantage. - Nice brickwork. - Very quick building. Around 5 months. Of course I am not aware of any troubles the owner could have. Good luck! Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently.
