Why? In my mind, floorboards would be preferable in the kitchen too, so why not just continue them into the kitchen? In kitchens, you can have pots & pans dropping, and tiles can crack & chip. With floorboards, they might dent, but can be filled and refinished with the rest of the floor. Grout will take some cleaning from time to time too. Another option is to have cork in the kitchen, offering some cushion, which can be much kinder on those who spend lots of time cooking etc. Its a nice resilient surface that can blend well with your hard floors. Much better than tiles in my book! But of course, its your place, so do as you wish! Ash.
