What an excellent resource you all have built here =) I jumping onto the deep end and have decided to purchase a vacant lot in WA to build a house few years down the track. I qualify for the FHB and was wondering if I have to pay stamp duty for this lot? I'm getting conflicting answers from the agent and the broker hmpf...Can someone enlighten me on this issue? Re: FHB buying vacant lot 2Oct 14, 2009 5:24 pm I'm not 100% sure, but I think if you buy a block only you don't qualify for the FOHG or boost as you aren't technically buying/building a "house". And yes you do have to pay stamp duty on it if you don't build a house on it straight away, but then you don't pay stamp duty on the house portion when it comes time to build. I can then apply for the FHOG when I have a building contract, and they will recalculate and refund the duty.
