Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Burbank build quality. 6Dec 09, 2007 7:11 pm Thanks for the replies.
It's unfortunate that the house we like the most, and is most suited to our block, is one of theirs. I think we will have to take the gamble on them. I'll see if i can dig up some more info, maybe ask them for some addresses of people they have built for so I can go and see the finised articles. Re: Burbank build quality. 7Dec 09, 2007 9:53 pm Hi tony, i have to say we walked through the Stoneleigh a few weeks ago and i loved the voids and the feeling of space that were designed into the home... I thought Burbank were originally a cheap and nasty builder but have now brought out a range of upmarket homes....they might have changed...i don't know.
I have to say though, i like your choice Tony, get the addresses, contact the people who are building the current range of homes (in our area) and see how you go. If the house works for you and you are happy with their service/quality, then go for it... We also like the PD Windsor 47 still, but would come in a good 50k more than the Stoneleigh. We could use that for a pool! We loved the Stoneleigh when we first saw it ages ago, but we really wanted an upstairs rumus room as well - which it doesnt have. We quoted up on our walkthrough on Saturday for not putting the 4th bedroom in. As you walk up the stairs, where the big orange wall is of the bedroom would now be open, so you get a big upstairs rumpus room and contuniues the open plan feel through to the upstairs then. We will also move master bedroom walk in robes to behind the ensuite - we dont want to walk through a wardrobe to get to the bathroom. The 'family' toilet will also be moved into the main bathroom and then we can enlarge bed 3. Also, we'll ditch the understairs storage and we're having a quote for a wider floating stair to make more of a feature of staicase. It can be fully double glazed for 14k and we are consdering a triple garage extension for around 10k It should be stunning, and quite different when finished ( assuming we go with it ). We went back to th WIndsor, and although it is a bigger - more solid feeling house, it did feel a little old fashioned after the Stoneleigh. We loved all the psace and light and it would be awsome on our block with the North facing rear for that huge double storey kitchen / dining area with the 1st floor windows. We can easily replace the internal walls to the runpus in the future to re-instate a 4th bedroom for resale if required. Just been reagin shoeys blog - they are buklding with Burbank and seem very happy. Will definatley have to find some people that have built with them. We'll call them tomorrow for some info. I think we'' have to 'risk' it though as we love the design so much. Re: Burbank build quality. 9Dec 09, 2007 10:19 pm At the end of the day Tony, you're the ones who are going to be living in it - YOU need to be happy.... Go with your gut feel... (but do your homework first). Re: Burbank build quality. 10Dec 10, 2007 7:37 am No matter who you choose - keep on top of them!
There are good and bad with all builders, and the problems are just as bad if you try and act as an owner builder. Sometimes it's the quality of the tradesmen (tradespersons?) and the site supervisor. It can explain why Builder A customers are happy in one location and not another. Like you, we chose based on the design we wanted. Good luck with your journey - I hope to read about all the positives on your blog Cheers Re: Burbank build quality. 11Dec 10, 2007 11:43 am perryr No matter who you choose - keep on top of them! Customer service and contacting people isnt too much of a concern, namely because we are in no huge rush to be complete. My main concern was the queliy of materials used and workmanship. As you say though, workmanship is down to the contractors anyway. Regular site visitis from me should help avert any huge problems. I think that the pervieced lesser quality I felt between the PD house and this one was more down to it being so much more open plan. The PD house felt solid, but was a lot more condensed which may have led to those 'quality' fellings if you know what I mean. I think it's got to be the Burbank. We just loved it. Re: Burbank build quality. 12Dec 10, 2007 12:28 pm Hi Tony & Emma,
We are currently / will start building with burbank soon. As with you, we choose B'bank because we liked their floorplan and try to compare with any other builder and nothing comes close. B'bank also comes down slighty cheaper than others. I must admit though that their customer service is ok not great, but i don't have other builder to compare with. Anyway, we're building the Gerbera. Good luck guys!! Start: 15 May 08, Current: Handover inspection 19/09 after that, the house is ours!!
