Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 16, 2009 5:24 pm We have a backyard that has a great view and is quite elevated but our problem ****** in the fact that our neighbour behind us is up higher and their deck looks directly down into our alfresco and even into a little of our dining room. We really want to put up some sort of screen (because we hate the people that live there and seeing them make us pretty upset) but from what i have been able to find out from our council is that we can have a 3m 'fence' without a permit. We have an exisiting 1.8m high fence and would put a screen in front of it but ultimatly it still needs to be higher than 3m! Does anyone have any suggestions for tall screens? Was thinking maybe just timber slats (vertical) and installed on a 45 degree angle to stop them from seeing in but not hiding all our sunlight. Re: Screening ideas HELP!!! 2Sep 16, 2009 8:50 pm Could you screen the side of your alfresco that they can look in to? Maybe some kind of slat screen like you said, but if it's attached to the alfresco area it wouldn't need to be 3m high would it? this wouldn't keep your whole backyard private, but you'd be able to use this area. Maybe some large shrubs planted to block the view too. buzz Re: Screening ideas HELP!!! 3Sep 19, 2009 10:36 am I would suggest Slender weaver bamboo in front of a screen, this bamboo is non invasive and grows to 4m, in a year or two it will be a solid wall of green. Re: Screening ideas HELP!!! 4Sep 29, 2009 12:19 am Cottonwood Hibiscus or Grevillea olivacea (olive leaf grevillea) will also grow to those heights fast. very dense hedges and birds love them Re: Screening ideas HELP!!! 6Sep 30, 2009 11:00 pm vp, you must be in WA? Allyogyne westcoast gem, a cracking WA native More people have their photo taken at Kings park Botanic gardens in front of this plant than any other. Amazing flowers, fast growing and dead easy to grow in a variety of soils. Maybe not tall enough for this application and short lived, but hey, how good is the colour on these, especially when they are well clipped I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters.
