We would like to get our floorboards sanded and polished, but aren't sure what would best suit us. We had decided on polyurethane, but I've now realised how bad for the environment it is. I've heard that polyurethane has VOCs in it, like paint does and with a pregnant wife and a toddler I would prefer a safer more natural product.
We were going to get the kitchen renovated and then get the floor sanded/polished, however things have got messed up and we'll have to wait to get the kitchen done at a later point, but would like to get the floors done before we move in. I've read that tung oil is good for situations where you need to redo bits and touchups, whereas the polyurethane is harder to touchup and redo. Since the kitchen will be getting put in later and the cabinets may move from where they are at the moment, it has given me another reason for looking at tung oil.
Anybody been in a similar decision dilemma? Anybody got any links to pictures of tung oiled floorboards compared to polyurethane?
