Re: Coloured Concrete Driveway - Top layer or Coloured Through? 33Sep 21, 2009 9:41 am onc_artisan Trowel on oxides weaken the surface of the concrete as it replaces/extends cement. Premixed is prefered in my book and less likely to be subject to colour variation. Thats what I thought so if sealing is not to expensive I will run with that. Can you tell me how often a coloured drive needs re-sealing? Our professional concreters prefer working with Hanson concrete so we went for Hanson's Mocha because we wanted an Earthy brown colour. Within three days of being finished off it was bright salmon pink. Neighbours commented that it was an eye sore and one neighbour asked when we were going to raise the gay flag. I emailed pictures to Hanson and they didn't contact me back but they did contact my concreters. They have agreed supply several drums of sealer which should give it a darker "wet look". We have been saving up the money for ten years to concrete our driveway and what should have been a great project has turned out to be a very stressful experience for us. Re: Coloured Concrete Driveway - Top layer or Coloured Throu 37Mar 29, 2012 11:24 am Unless your a fan of bold colours for your house then, colour through is the way to go. Its finicky so you need a smart concretor. Also I would use a bagged oxide from a reputable company, Ability chemicals I have found to be the best. Hanson uses liquid colour in the concrete. I find it far more unreliable. Also the colour chart in their brochure is way off the real product. Colour on can last a long time but its so often applied poorly, ie when the concrete is too wet, may be easier on the day but trowelling all the water in leads to a weak surface and the colour wearing off in the future. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Are you doing this with a building permit? Conversion of a non habitable room into a habitable room requires building permit. 3 13396 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 7411 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 9082 |
