Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: What insulation brand are you getting? 5Sep 17, 2009 10:57 pm Hills Guy We looked very closely at insulation and chose the following: Aircell insulation to wrap the frame prior to bricks. Polyester bats in the walls (were are not keen on the glass bats, but have used Rockwool in a few internal areas for the noise properties) Then we chose cellulose (sp?) for the ceiling (much better than bats, but following trades don’t like working with it as it falls through as they cut holes in the ceiling (we don’t think this should be a problem for us in a new house) Did you get Aircell from Bunnings? What "brand" are your polyester bats and cellulose? Bradford? Re: What insulation brand are you getting? 6Sep 17, 2009 11:39 pm gettingThere Did you get Aircell from Bunnings? What "brand" are your polyester bats and cellulose? Bradford? We used a company called "Insulation Matters" after a bit of shopping around. We found there is quite a mark-up on some insulation products and by playing one quote off against another we haggled down to a good price. Cool n Cosy offer the same range from memory. Re: What insulation brand are you getting? 7Sep 18, 2009 7:05 am The 'best' all round insulation is glasswool batts. They are proven, comparatively cheaper and have the lowest environmental foot print. There are 2 main local manufacturers - CSR (Bradford) & Fletcher (Pink Batts & Insulco). All three batt brands are comparable. Avoid any imported glasswool batts (cannot be sure that they are bio-soluble). I would never use the blow in insulation (dusty, messy, chemically treated). And polyester batts – a bit like a toxic plastic time bomb & an oil derived insult to the earth. However, the biggest consideration is ensuring that what ever you use is installed properly. Poor workmanship can make any good product less effective that it ought to be. Thank you. That is really helpful. Once we get the place done and passed for OC we can upgrade in the future once we get back on our feet and not paying mortgage and rent. 4 5749 I am in a difficult situation.
