You save a lot of money if you can do landscaping yourself but the end product may well still be the same, but at less cost. I think it is a fair bet my garden will be a selling point on resale - not just because of the initial cost but because it will be well cared for and maintained. Our old house was entirely a DIY job too, large yard and neglected garden when we started, even the valuer was impressed when inspecting and barely looked at the inside (which had been renovated as well) because "if its as well kept as the garden, I know it's OK" And someone who did some electrical work when we first moved in, then came back a few years later to do something else and said Wow! who did the landscaping for you? Nobody, did it all ourselves I am rambling on here but my point is that money spent needs to take into account all variables, the biggest one being whether you use paid design and labour. Resale value (unless you are selling immediatly) will also depend on how well you maintain the garden, not just the initial outlay. I couldn't say that there would ever be too many exceptions to that table. Of course there are a few, but not enough to worry about. Excellent guide for those considering landscaping Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh? Renovations on a budget can be quite the journey. It's like giving your house a new lease on life.
