Hi everyone

Well as you are all aware I am building my home with Metri*&^ and have to say just when I thought I was about to move in things started to get really, really bad.

I got Kev out (from new home inspection - he was just briliiant by the way)and well after reading the report which is 11 pages long come to the conclusion that it might be easier just to knock the house down and pitch a tent on the block. I was horrified and feel like I have just thrown all my hard earned money down the drain. Are these people who build our homes not professional builders I ask? How could they possible get so many things wrong? And why are things which where meant to have been rectified from the first inspection still not right??? I would love it if anyone could give me an answer, and anticipate Metr*&*^ response (that's if there is one).

Then to my dismay i receive a call from the people manufacturing my blinds only to learn that Metri&*% only placed the purchase order for my curtains yesterday and that due to this they wouldn;t be able to supply the shutters this side of Christmas...............! I organised all my selections back in April. Say no more? Although I can't wait to understand how this happened.

But wait cause there's more then I have my final inspection with kev organised but again to my dismay Metr%^& never showed up and tried to tell me that I had changed the day of the inspection ???? news to my ears.(funny thing about this was i had written confirmation from Metr*^% clearly outlining the date and time of my appointment which i had confirmed with them by the way). Kev's peeved, I'm peeved but none the less we re-schedule another time for Kev to come out on site so I organise with metr%^& to leave a door open for Kev to gain access, Kev arrives again but there aint no door left unlocked for him. Naturally they still don't accept that its their mistake and blame a tradie, and when the adventually do send someone down to unlock the house my site manager doesn;t arrive, instead they sent a tradie.....suprise suprise.

And as for their slogan "L.W.Y.L"????? Well it leave's a lot to be desired when they can't even get the basic fundementals right!!!!!

Hi Sallyho.
Sorry to hear your stories. From your post, it seems that the builder want to dissuage you from having an independent inspection, or try to avoid to have to meet with the inspector.

Sorry for your disappointment sally. Are you able to list some of the things your indep. inspector picked up - at least the info might be beneficial for those of us still building to look out for?

All the best in getting things fixed - my experience tells me that if handled the right way, M will do the right thing.

Take a deep breath Sallyho and make sure you don't hand over any cheques!!!!!! Hold off payment and stand firm until they complete what needs to be done. I'd be jumping up and down and yelling by now.... :twisted:

So sorry you are so frustrated Sally. I really can't wait to get to a point in building so I can use Kevin. He seems worth his weight in gold. I'm also glad that I never built with the big M. I think we should keep this topic and others like it at the top of the list so companies like the big M realise that people who plan to build are reading about them and that their reputation is on the line. Hope everything works out Sally.

Having a GOOD independent inspector is well worth its weight in gold so invest your money to have it done at all the relevant stages.

If you opt to use Kev he will exceed your expectations, and is wonderful to work with.

Hi Sally,
I feel sorry for whats going onwith M. We also contacted kev and he's agreed for 3 phases to inspect.. did u go thru the 3 phases? or was it just at the end? Are they 'fixable' issues?
I hope it ends well.

Hi VP - Regrettably I only had one at my final stage. Hence the reason I am trying to stress the importance of them at all the appropriate stages. I can't help but think if I had of had them carried out as required I wouldn't be in the position I am in now. You've made the right move! by having one carried out at each stage and as a result your build should be smooth sailing.
I am currently waiting for a response from the big M in relation to all of the issues but will be sure to keep you updated with how things are going.

Well I received an update from the big M re: the first inspection whereby they stood me and Kev up. Apparently they have evidence that the appointment was made for a different night, even though I emailed through my booking confirmation and time which was supplied from their head office. I have requested a copy of this 'supposed evidence' as its got beat what it could be, but I'm interested to find out! Will let you all know...

I’m not surprised at all…….by any of it!

But my heart goes out you…..this is disgusting.

When someone decided to build a home, they are so excited and can’t wait to get to the end so they can move in and enjoy their new home after months of stress from building and making sure everything right.

To be told such deflating news would be heart breaking to say the least!

Your shutters should have been ordered months ago, another disappointment, and another show of poor management on behalf of Metri*&^.

Unbelievable that Metri*&^ are still in business!

We have noticed the funny silence from m's staff each time we mention independent inspection.. which is good to keep them on their toes.
perhaps with the shortage of tradies they just get anyone to do the job without a thorough qualification check.
Kev did mention that M are quite wary of him..

As for you Sally, I hope they fix everything to perfection. M better clean up their act.

It must be very frustrating on your part to receive that kind of quality house.
Now I'm getting worried.... because we're going to build with M.

I hope they fix all the issues that they caused...

Well big M have got back to me in relation to the inspections report, and great news they have agreed to rectify everything which Kev had outlined. So will keep you posted.
Bad news still no update or response in relation to the the window furnishings for the home

and Victory have confirmed that i will not see these until the new year now.

So my question is I am now in a sticky situation as this puts me in breech of contract with my contract for my estate, I'm building in the Beaumonde Estate. As my contract outlines that all visible windows (which is only the street front) must have window dressing completed upon hand over and or occupancy of the home.

Any free advice going?

Good grief…. How fussy are the estates getting!!!

I would get in contact with them now (estate) …..tell them the situation, not your fault, you left it in the hands of the building company, they let your down.

Make it known NOW that your window dressing will not be ready.

I think if you are up front with them it should be ok, tell them the dressings will be put on ASAP after Christmas.

If they are too upset about it, tell them you can always hang a few nasty old sheets at the windows till the new dressings come!

Bet they will be happy to wait with you!

Good luck and good that the building company is fixing issues for you.

To my knowledge Victory would be to blame with the window coverings, not M3tr icon. Victory is not part of their business. M3tr icon let them set up a display inside the selection centre, and allow their quote to be included in the contract price (same with the concrete) but I can't see how M3tr icon are to blame? We were considering getting blinds included, and were told we would only need to let them know a few weeks in advance of handover that we wanted the blinds and they would be installed ready to go. Perhaps it is a supply issue that they are fobbing off onto M3tricon. They should have a stage set when M3tricon (or you) contact them so that they can supply, so unless they have "forgotten" about it, then I'd be onto Victory!
It would be like us blaming M3tr icon for not getting us the bricks sooner. M3tr icon don't make bricks - they can only supply what their suppliers give them.
I hope your issues get sorted promptly, but at least they have said they will fix the problems.

Hi Ray - Perfect timing on your post, metricon actually got back to me today re: my blinds and it appears that my site manager placed the order too late to meet Victory's christmas cut off dates for orders. They also advised that they never install the blinds until after settlement has taken place.

Re: the estate conditions outlined in my contract, Metricon have agreed to have their construction manager contact the estate on my behalf to try and work something out with them.

So a positive response all round I think, and I just need all this confirmation to appear in writing and all should be good.
