Compromise

Is there a suitable way of compromising with regard to a home theatre. I know some of you will think absolutely not! but I'm trying to find a solution to a problem. We would like a theatre room, but it's on the "would be nice, but not necessary list". However, we're trying not to make the house too big - there are only two of us if you don't count the "furbabies", so would prefer not to have a separate theatre room. One idea is to have something like bifold doors on the family room so that it can be opend up to the dining room and kitchen, but closed off to use as a theatre room when desired. How effective would this be? Would the bifold doors create issues with the sound since they are not as solid as a wall with sound batts in them?

Abolutely there is the ability to compromise, you just need to think about what you have in the room, and what equipment you need.

Matt or Rod, or a number of others will be able to give you info on thy, but an example is using flush mounted wall speakers, recessing the equipment in a ventilated cupboard, and having a drop down screen.

My Cinema / rumpus room will always be multi purpose. Soon I will have a dropdown screen mounted into a bulkhead, to finish the room off.

Perhaps posting some room size info might help.

Hi Shaje.

We've installed many setups where the 'theatre' was missing a wall - even Matt's last one was missing a rear wall and was dual purpose.

My own current setup is dual purpose - it's the regular sit in TV room that, when I press a button, turns into a theatre with the projector and 115" screen both decending from the ceiling (the screen comes down in front of the TV). I have all In-Wall speakers except for the subwoofer (which can go anywhere in the room) and my A/V cabinet is also recessed into the wall (on the right side).

P.S. I think, however, calling this room a 'compromise' would be a bit harsh.... when in theatre mode you certainly don't feel there's been any compromise made...

I suppose I got the better deal, now all I have to do is find another one or two for the wife, and hopefully get the others I have framed and put up. I think it will have to wait untill the new house and theatre though....

Hey arkraider, nice pics! Especially the Matrix one. Are the prints originals? Are any of them signed? I've got a Casino Royale one to go up already with cells and autographed pic, but need plenty more... Otherwise hubby is going to mount his 1:18 model car collection in glass shelves....so i've got to buy some more quick and beat him to it. :twisted:

Thanks Pheonix, yes they are all what is called "lobby cards" and an origin film cell from the Collectors Edition of The Matrix Collectors Box, see it here

The wife chose the layout for the Matrix frame and I took it up to a frame place in Hallam, Sth East suburbs Melb. The glass is actually non reflective perspex because the glass would have been too heavy. It cost me around the $800 and before I had picked it up they had had offers to buy it from them of over $2000. Which I was very pleased about as I had not seen it at that stage. But none of the pictures are signed no.

All the single pictures are what's called Day Release posters, hard to come by and generally pricey. I have another 6 or seven to get framed and put up, but won't happen this year. One of them is the original Star Wars and the original release pictures of The Blues Brothers, so I can't wait to get them in frames.

The Star Was Poster I think was around the $250 mark, just the poster no frame, no glass, just paper... And consider I bought it 6 years ago, I really couldn't afford it then, but I could not leave it there either. I hate money....

I haven't seen that version of collectors for the Matrix in australia for a couple of years now. But i know it is still available in the US....hence the link.

Just thought I should add, all the picture disks in the frames are blank, printable dvd's I printed out at home.... I thought they added a certain... arty, designy flavour thingy.... to it.... :lol:

Thanks Adrian and Rod for your comments. Adrian, I would post room sizes but we don't even have a plan yet, we're just thinking about what we'd like to have. Rod, your room looks great. May have to keep that sort of concpet in mind.
