For all those about to build with PD - When they offer to connect to the telstra pit for $250 and promise this will save you the $299 telstra connection fee - IT DOESNT!!!!
We asked this question to the salesperson, and repeatedly to our supervisor and were assured this would be the case....but it's NOT!
I believe "grime" had the same problem - which is why we questioned it!!

WOW what a rip off! They charged you $250 for connecting and then you had to get charged $299 by Telstra anyway? Thats awful....
Everyone has to pay the $299 regardless for a new home connection but this is almost like you have been slugged twice. Not fair.
Adenbrook did not charge to get the phone line installed. But I naturally paid Telstra $299...
Our Adenbrook home was completed in September.

Isn't the $250 fee to run the cable from the pit into your house? Tto be honest I don't recall then saying it would save me with Telstra.
Thanks for the heads up - I'll ask them when we go back for our new contract!

You're correct ... an offer of $250 to connect to the telstra pit isnt going to avoid you paying Telstra a connection fee of $299
The $250 covers the cost of digging a trench, putting cable in it, and connecting one end into the nearest pit, and the other to the junction box out the front of your house.
The $299 covers the cost of connecting your new "wire" in the groud into their infrastructure, their exchanges, giving you a phone number etc.
The builder has nothing to do with paying Telstra for your phone line..... and unfortunantly never will. If you decided to dig the trench yourself this would have cost you $0, however to get a line put in it, you would have to pay your own electriction/contractor to connect the 'lead in' cable (ie bounday, to your house).... ie $250
$250 = lead in
$299 = connection to Telstra
Its like asking TRU Energy to connect your house to power... you're charged a connection fee. If you havent paid an electrition or builder to put wire in your walls ... TRU aren't going to be able to connect to anything!
Although I must say ... the $299 is a bit of a ripoff from T's end unfortunantly.

Well pointed out Jimbo but perhaps the tone of your post won't win you any friends...
When you pay for your electricity, water and gas connections to the relevant authorities they only cost $30 to $50 for connection and there is no pipe/cable/trench to be run with any of these.
It is a fair assumption and a fair question.

We understand exactly what the charges are for - what we were angry about is that our builder specifically stated it would save us a big part of the $299 telstra connection fee - as they then only have to "switch us on at exchange etc" and dont have to come out and do any work on site.

Thats pretty poor they gave you that incorrect information. The "switching on at the exchange" is actually what costs the $299 unfortunantly .. its a rip off. If they had to come out to your property to do work, they'd charge you more! its crazy.
