Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 23, 2008 6:43 pm Hi guys,
I have a question that I know somebody on this forum will be able to answer As per regulations we have a rainwater by-pass system plumbed to main bathroom toilet by the builder, and we are required to add the rainwater tank. My question is, is it possible to place a rainwater tank on the wall between bed 2 and bed 3 at the back of the house instead of on the side wall of bed 2??? The plumbing is in place around on the side wall of bed 2. This would give more room around the side, especially when carrying washing baskets and stuff... We are planning to put a pergola area on the side with the meals/rumpus and a shed at the back, so it does not matter view wise... Any ideas... Just make sure you select a slimline tank as to not obstruct the view or light coming into the windows. The other option if you have gone too far is to bury the tank. Yak_chat should be able to provide further advice on all of this. Building NB Hampton 19e finishing at end july 08 Re: Rainwater tank question...anybody 4Jul 24, 2008 5:24 pm Thanks steve,
Yeah, it was about lenght of pipe and position. We are looking at going with some sort of slim line thing that will hardly be noticed from the inside of those windows. Thanks again, Donna Re: Rainwater tank question...anybody 5Aug 10, 2009 2:52 pm It's quite a while since this topic was posted in but I'd like to ask a slightly different question about rainwater tanks. I thought I had this all sorted out in my head BUT I went to another tank place and now I'm MORE confused, our plans state the following: ----------------------------------------------------- Denotes min. 3700L Detention Tank, as specified in council requirements. ----------------------------------------------------- Stormwater by owner. provide 1x2 module (1000L Min) Retention Tank Connected into WC and installed in accordance with government specifications. ----------------------------------------------------- My understanding of this until today was that if we got a 5000L tank connected it to a toilet (loop is already installed on the house for this) we could use the whole 5000L and when the tank got full the excess would then run into the stormwater. I was told today that we do need "at least" a 4700L tank BUT it will only ever hold 1000L for the toilet and the rest will automatically have to be discharged into the stormwater. This seems totally ludicrous, why on earth would you want to waste 4000 Ltr of water when you could use it ! Has anyone had this same story? I'll also post this in the Building SA section and another rainwater tank thread 18 90484 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair But if it is a ground level open pit, then it is not a charged system. No surprises there. The pipes have obviously been altered and there would be a reason for this.… 3 31281 Grate, thank you!
