A guy here buys old tyres off tyre shops and exports them to third world countries where they allow them to be used regardless of tread depth. Not sure if thats the answer to getting rid of them though Re: Treated pine for vegie garden? 25Aug 07, 2009 6:52 pm I thought this sounded interesting. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/newinventors/txt/s1509854.htm Re: Treated pine for vegie garden? 26Aug 07, 2009 6:53 pm Re: Treated pine for vegie garden? 28Aug 10, 2009 11:06 am A possible solution? I've got a veggie patch enclosed by sawn treated pine and didn't realise there might be some negative effects until I read about them on this site ([expletive deleted] killjoys!) . But for my sweet potato strip-plot I've enclosed the area with plastic wire cut down to about 20 cm made rigid by recycled plastic stakes (from Bunnings) cut in half. Now the trick is to heap half rotted compost around the inside edge of the wire to stop the middle-soil spilling out. And ... and one can put bamboo sticks through the top holes in the wire (side to side) and hopefully keep cats out. This is still a work-in-progress and is yet to be proven in practice but undoubtedly come summer it will be a veritable cornucopia of vegetables!
