Browse Forums Building A New House Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 12Nov 07, 2007 1:15 pm louie How on earth did that happen? Looks like they used the darker coloured bricks first on the bottom bit. Were they delivered in two seperate loads or at the same time? Ive seen different shaeds of bricks used in houses before but it works best when the bricks are all mixed up. Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 13Nov 07, 2007 1:18 pm aaurora chellekobe please tell me if i am being really picky or can you guys still see the color difference from the old brick to the new brick. I can see the line where the blending starts....but it definitely is an improvement.... What is your actual builder saying about this, never mind the brick company? Who are you building with? Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 14Nov 07, 2007 1:31 pm chellekobe,
Is rendering an option? If not is the austral paint an option? Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 15Nov 07, 2007 1:48 pm mattwalker chellekobe, Is rendering an option? Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 16Nov 07, 2007 2:31 pm chellekobe The brick company have flat out refused to render because they are in the brick game not the rendering game. They want their product on display not covered up. Sounds like excuses to avoid rectifying the problem. Ask them why they want their crap work on display. Anyway, it's upto your builder to organise the render. That's the only party you should have to deal with. Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 17Nov 07, 2007 2:54 pm Cookiemonster Anyway, it's upto your builder to organise the render. That's the only party you should have to deal with. I don't think I would be satisfied with the suggestions. I know it's not the home builders fault, but you are paying him to build your house, not the brick company. The home builder should be rectifying it....considering rendering costs $10,000 or so, thats a lot to ask, but you're in a real pickle!!! Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 18Nov 07, 2007 3:20 pm we have spoken to our solictor and i have come up with what i hope is a plan.
I am going to get my solictor to draw up a contract that states the following 1. Austral Bricks goes ahead with the nawkaw brickstaining process. 2. Once completed i get an individual house inspector to inspect Before and after the work has been completed. 3. if inspector says yes the house looks great and can't see any difference than i will sign off on the contract but state if at anytime the process fades or discolors or anything goes wrong, in the 25year lifetime warranty. They will tear down the outerwall at there expense and rebrick it. 4. If inspector says NO it still looks like crap they have to tear it down and rebrick it. or 5. They render it at their expense and we forget about the whole nasty situation. plus a little sumpin sumpin for screwing us over. Does this sound like a fair comprimise to all you guys or am i asking too much. Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 19Nov 07, 2007 3:33 pm I think that sounds ok. I reckon that the inspector will find the job satisfactory....I think you getting it rendered is pretty slim, thats way too much money.
What a bad situation! Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: NEED HELP - BRICKLAYERS USED 2 DIFFERENT COLORED BRICKS 20Nov 07, 2007 3:42 pm Because the house is bearer and joist the back slopes away so its going to cost them heaps to put up scaffolding, pay for the staining and labour as they have to make sure they tape up the mortar and paint every brick individually. At nearly $70 m2 this will cost them just about as much as rendering will. We got that straight from the Brick REP. I just dont have enough faith that anything apllied paint/stain or otherwise is not going to need touching up every 5-10 years. I know that happens with rendering but at least i'll know how to deal with that. This staining process is complicated as it can take a few applications to get it right. yep you need a joint, foam is easiest, will look fine once rendered with a joint. 2 5328 Hi, have purchased a house with 2 single garage doors.
