Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 25, 2009 5:27 pm Woo hoo Signed contract with Fairmont this morning so the journey continues come what will. Have a lot to do Interestingly for us, when it came to to contract signing, we cut out a number of extras, one of them being the 2.7m ceilings, dropping back down to 2.55. Get rid of the allowance for Ceramic toilets and some other bits n pieces. We just wanted to manage the risk of additional costs around retaining walls etc. and still come in budget. Going by others experiences, finishing can bit ya in the butt! Personally speaking, have used a spreadsheet quite extensively, so much so I took it to the office this morning so we could see the effect of every change before we signed. An exceptional chance footings will be less than allowed for. 2 in the same street were. We figure there will be some sort of retaining walls so the diff will go to those. Looking at circa $8k, have allowed $12k. Interesting what you find out by visiting the estate often. Same design us us at the other end of the street, same builder 4 doors down, happy with builder and so it goes. Re: Golden Grove - Contract Signed 3Jul 25, 2009 8:07 pm Now all the fun starts. Re: Golden Grove - Contract Signed 4Jul 27, 2009 12:30 am Congrats on signing your contract. Exciting times ahead for you. I too have a spreadsheet that I have used to track the total costs of the build including everything from the site costs and upgrades for the kitchen bench down to the landscaping, letterbox etc. I actually became very obsessed with my spreadsheet (I am an accountant after all!) and I used to spend hours on it just fiddling the numbers around, it drove my husband crazy, but then I found something else to get addicted to, THIS FORUM! Good luck with the build. I look forward to seeing a floor plan and some photos in the future.
