Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 22, 2009 10:49 pm I thought I saw somewhere that the thicker 13mm plasterboard sheets are required where the stud spacing is greater than 450mm. Does anyone know if this is this right or was I dreaming. (I'm not sure these days). Re: Thickness of plasterboard 3Jul 23, 2009 7:19 am Yes, and no... Depends on the manufacturer! Best to check their specs.. For cielings, most will offer a 10mm Cieling sheet which can span 600... Personally, I'd be going with 13mm if you have 600 studs.. Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Thickness of plasterboard 4Jul 23, 2009 10:00 am Thanks for the advise. It's probably too late for us but my advise to others still in the design stage, get in writing either 450 centers for studs upstairs and down or 13mm plaster board. Re: Thickness of plasterboard 5Jul 23, 2009 6:32 pm All the plasterboard manufacturers have spans on their websites Re: Thickness of plasterboard 6Jul 24, 2009 12:32 am Thanks all I'm receiving contradicting advise from others I've contacted today. The building surveyor says 10mm is fine foor 600mm span but a structural engineer sent me a document from the Australian National Training Authority which says it should be 13mm. I'd like to trust the Builder's surveyor (now that's a whole new thread for another day) Re: Thickness of plasterboard 7Jul 24, 2009 5:35 am mudmap Thanks all I'm receiving contradicting advise from others I've contacted today. Re: Thickness of plasterboard 10Jul 24, 2009 12:04 pm If your studs are at 600mm centers but ceiling battens at 450 you can still use normal standard core 10mm plaster, you dont need uni span or similar products. Only if your ceiling battens are greater than 450 centers do you need to use 13mm plaster or non standard 10mm plaster. As you have had contradicting information I can dig up a span table if you need. Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 8317 What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2761 Plasterboard Gyprock is very popular as a reveal liner these days.
