Hi all
I've noticed that not many on this forum have built using Boral bricks and am just curious to know why this is the case.

I know Simonds didn't use Boral and a couple of the PD ranges don't use Boral. Our builder has the Horizon range as standard so we went with Boral Mocha, but I didn't really give much of a thought to the company of brick as its pretty much governed by our builders. We love our brick, and are very lucky Mocha is in the standard range for us as we weren't really over the moon about other Boral bricks. Joles, I know exactly what you mean about the lines through the bricks, personally don't like that look either. I don't know if its Boral but I'm also not a fan of those bricks that are like bright orange terracotta looking with a dark colour 'render' on the face of the brick so when it chips its really really obvious ICK So glad the building is over, never again. Loooove our house, but still not quite sure it was worth all of the stress they put us through! Re: Why DIDN'T you choose Boral bricks? 10Jul 18, 2009 6:41 pm I think it also varies across states dramatically.. PGH seem to be more used here in QLD. In saying that our builder uses Boral roof tiles so... We were going to build with Porter Davis Lifestyle and after being completely underwhelmed by the Boral bricks, we actually changed houses and changed to Porter Davis Prestige just so we could use an Austral brick. A lot of the Boral bricks have sort of lines and divets in them and they take on an almost plasticy fake appearance. Some of them almost look like fake brick cladding. I like bricks to feel rough and textured..... because that's how I like bricks to feel and look. I just couldn't really find anything in the Boral range that we could use with our estate limitations. Although there are some Boral bricks I really love, they were either unavaialable to us or wouldn't have passed our covenants. I'm much happier with the Austral bricks. I really want to see these lines now Does anyone have a closeup pic? Re: Why DIDN'T you choose Boral bricks? 12Jul 18, 2009 8:30 pm We could have chosen Cat 1 from either Austral or Boral, and ended up going with Austral 'Latrobe' (I have heard that they are now considered as Cat 3 with our builder). A local supplier had their entire range on display so we got to see them in the flesh before our colour selection day. Once we saw them, there was nothing in the Boral brochure that interested us. We found it really hard to choose because they have such a wide range....guess it depends on your tastes. Re: Why DIDN'T you choose Boral bricks? 15Jul 19, 2009 6:51 pm My builder usually uses Selkirk, but I managed to get Austral bricks, as back in May, Selkirk were behind delivery due to a unexpected kiln fire. Kilns have fires in them all the time, but I guess if one was unexpected, it could cause problems! Geoff - Decophile. Re: Why DIDN'T you choose Boral bricks? 18Jul 20, 2009 12:37 pm ozzroo Pl@ntation's preferred supplier was PGH. Whilst we did like some of the Boral bricks we found we loved the PGH Sandstocks even better. Just didnt like the price difference sorry to hijack the thread but Oz I just checked up on your blog and you are having the same front door AND kitchen splashback colour as us!!! What good taste we both have! You may still have a case, but your next step is to speak to a lawyer. 3 1801 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 18185 Hi All, I just wanted to close this topic out with an update.
