Windows. JG King have their own window company called 'Project Windows'. The size of the windows on our plans was different to what we got. Not by much, but enough to make our blinds NOT fit. We didn't realise we would have to measure the windows during construction. We thought that because the sizes they had on the plan were 'standard' sizes that we would be okay. It was a very costly oversight! So make sure you check the window sizes! Bricks. We were very niave while building our first house. The bricks we chose...we chose off a 'display board' that JG King had for us to look at. While the bricks we got look the same, in colour, their 'make up' is NOTHING like we imagined. They have big chunks of quartz through them, holes, cracks etc. We are very disappointed in them. They look like 'seconds'. And at the end of the build we had one, yes 1, brick left! So make sure, when choosing your bricks, that you see a wall built from them - not just 6-8 bricks. Variations. If you make any variations to the contract, make sure that it is in writing and/or new plans drawn etc.! All our variations were made 'before' they even started building - they were mostly electrical variations. BUT, the electrical plan was NOT re-done, (we were told, "they never rewrite the electrical plan") even though it was all documented in writing. The supervisor failed to pass on this information to the Electrician and therefore things were left out. We kept an eye on things and bought them to their attention as we noticed things, but - at the end of the day - things were still missed and left out, which was very dissapointing, considering we had thought it all through and 'thought' we had it all sorted out before they even began. If I think of anything else I'll let you know... Sue Re: JG King and other questions 25Oct 31, 2007 7:26 pm Thanks for the tips Sueau,

My wife and I looked at the photos of the bricks and they look great ! I think the cracks and the quartz give it a more rustic feel which we like. Were they from the PGH or Selkirk range? We have taken your tip on the bricks and are going to visit the manufacturers display site (Apparently they have walls made up already - it is close for us as we live in Melbourne and the showroom is in Springvale) * Are we there yet ? The bricks are from the Selkirk range. They are called 'Rebellion Red'. Glad you like them - we are disappointed because they do not look like what we thought they would look like. But hey, everyone's opinions are different.... Goodluck! Sue I recently went through a similar renovation and move scenario when updating our family home. We also swapped some rooms around and tackled a major… 2 10032 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 105553 1 7941 |
