We bought one of these so it was easier to train our new little puppy. They are a great idea!!
It has only taken 4 weeks to train him. Now I just have to stop him chewing!!

My new cat door is in and it ended up costing $420. It is one of those clear perspex ones. One of my cats is refusing to use it and meows to come in and meows to go out. Hopefully time will change that but she ended up sleeping outside last night in the freezing cold because she's stubborn. Fi has moved in!! Re: Fitting in the pets. 23Jul 11, 2009 5:47 pm In regards to a cat flap has anyone thought of maybe having something used in a sliding window (I'm talking about a window that starts approx 800mm off the floor)? I'm thinking as cats can easily jump onto a window sill you could have a sliding window open in a room and have an insert made similar to that patiolink with a door at the bottom and just blank off the rest. You could just close it in the sliding window and it would only need to be about 25cm wide. That way cats can have access and other nasties wouldn't. Also you could lock the sliding window in position so it can't be opened any further for people access. I think a cat could get used to it.. Re: Fitting in the pets. 24Jul 11, 2009 7:39 pm That would work for most cats, but I would be scared to put one of those in because my old cat couldn't jump at all! He was only about 6 years old (haven cat, so not sure of his age) but had recurrent mini-strokes (not that the vets figured that out until the day before he passed away!) and couldn't jump. He was a normal, cheeky little thing in every other way. I think once he made it about halfway up the back gate, but I was telling him he was a champion! I don't know how I could handle a cat that could jump now... it was so easy to keep him in the backyard! Oh man, I was kinda half thinking about getting a cat when my old dog passes away (currently poor cat would be eaten), but now you've reminded me that most cats can jump. Re: Fitting in the pets. 28Jul 13, 2009 1:51 pm My new cat door is in and it looks fantastic - kitty litter and food moved outside into a side porch just for the cats. Purrfect you would think - no both cats (both almost 13 years old) refuse or can't see where the kitty litter is and desicrated my carpet!! They were using the kitty litter in the laundry until this point. My dear kind husband has locked them both out of the house so one of them left us a present in the alfresco area this morning. The kitty litter is still clean. Also someone should have told me to avoid the housewarming party when you have a beautiful new house. A kind family member desicrated my carpet and I'm not happy. I've been through this in the past but this is my brand new beautiful house. Fi has moved in!! Lots of pictures and commentary... As much as I think this house is WAAAY too colourful... I'd love to live there with my baby. Oh by the way... my "baby" is 21 years old... so I'm not sure she's up to any of these hijinks any more. I'm not letting our girls see that, they'll want it! I'm a bit lazy, and haven't read the details of this thread properly yet - will do soon... but does anyone know roughly the cost of putting a cat door through some brickwork? Our cat run will be built off our laundry. There's no windows in our laundry but we have a fully glazed door for light. Being there's no window, we plan to put hole through brickwork from inside the bottom shelf of our linen cupboard inside the laundry. We've got the cat enclosure sorted for outside, but are a little stuck on the actual entrance through the brickwork. I live in a double storey place at the moment, so the litter box is in the space under the stairs (affectionately known as the 'Harry Potter cupboard'). I had a look at that patiolink site (http://www.patiolink.com.au/) and they look pretty good - just wondering how it would in terms of keeping the cold/heat out?? Has anyone actually tried one of these?? P. Re: Fitting in the pets. 33Sep 15, 2009 11:03 am I have one and they come with weather strips to put around them to stop the wind. However I live on a windy hill and the flap blows open on windy days. I have found my dog that used to get out has not since putting in the diggy door. I also bought a pet containment system as she is a houdini. It is the wire around the perimeter of your boundry and they wear the special collar and it gives them a zap the equivalent of the shock you give when walking on carpet in socks lol. This also helped but she found if she took a big run up and jum[ed over the fence it would only shock a bit and she would be free. You can also get anti-jump harness that let them run around but do not allow their hind legs to fully stretch out when they jump. These are good just annoying to put on everyday. Hope this info helps. Tam Re: Fitting in the pets. 34Sep 15, 2009 12:45 pm Tam I have one and they come with weather strips to put around them to stop the wind. He will be moving from a 25acre property to a 700m2 one.. so it will be an interesting change for him Re: Fitting in the pets. 35Sep 16, 2009 12:30 pm [JADED] Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Meet Jock - Worlds greatest escape artist. So I told him that I was going to get little wooden name plaques for each of them and stick them up on the minor bedroom doors for my housewarming. They have picked most of the colours too (timber laminate colour perfectly matches their coat colour, limited carpets for them to get dirty and for me to clean... etc. etc.) My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! |
