Have you thought of a career in house design? How big is the house and the block that you are putting it on? We are looking at Doreen at the moment for some land and are building with Henley as they had exactly what we wanted. Look forward to watching your build progress it will be amazing. Re: Building a new home in Laurimar - here we go again ! 5Jul 07, 2009 12:00 pm The land is about 670m2 (the block is about 35m long). We didn't want anything too large as we both despise gardening This land gave us enough space for the house to be built around the pool, and enough backyard for the kids to set up a trampoline, swing set, etc. They can ride their bikes and kick a footy over in the park across the road. As for a career in house design, I enjoy "tinkering", but couldn't do it full time. I currently work for a commercial builder so I know the industry pretty well, but the only house I have ever built is my own. My current home is on a sloping block of over 6 metres and the house sits on 3 levels, with a 4th split. The design and build time on that took over 12 months. This time around we felt a flat block would work best ! Would you mind if I asked you what size the house will be? We are building a Queenslander and it is umm big @ 550 square metres, it has alot of verandah space. Look forward to seeing some pics too! Re: Building a new home in Laurimar - here we go again ! 7Jul 07, 2009 1:42 pm 550m2 wow - big house. All up this is about 36 squares, which includes the garage and alfresco. The living area will be just under 30 squares. Due to it's design, no space is wasted for us, and the rooms are generous. The forecast is for rain all next week, but I hope it holds off so I can get the slab in ! I have a machine coming Tuesday to pour the blinding concrete which will sit under the slab beams to allow the pool to be close to the house. The concretors are due Wednesday to start prepping the slab.
