I like your idea of the harden on the west side. Plenty of shady plants/trees in the summer will certainly help things. Funnily enough, even though it's going to be around twelve months until we move in, I'm already planning garden layouts and plant purchases. Whilst I don't want to put a big trellis over the bedroom windows to the west, I'm also interested in putting some deciduous plants right up against them to keep them cool in summer and let the light in in winter.
